Recommendation 1 from ‘The Guardian’

Article Name:Facebook should remove all gender options instead

By: Science and Technology Board; the Guardian

Iforesee trouble too with Facebook’s insertion of various categories of cis(gender), a term more frequently used by some in the trans community to define non-trans people than an identity opted for: a few non-trans people actively object to it. Though presumably if someone does self-identify as cis, that’s OK

Summary:

Last week, Facebook introduced 56 new gender options as a part of its progressive move to show support for the LGBT population, but instead is now facing harsh criticism from few groups about the exaggerated version of their gender list. Should Facebook completely remove the gender option, which could lead to more spamming, hijacking of profiles or should they stick to their new move.

Recommendation 2 from ‘The Telegraph- Calcutta’

Article Name:The Style of Opposition

By: SL Rao

He should never have accepted office, but should have remained in opposition to attack governments by established political parties so that they became more pro-people. The Delhi chief minister-ship had exposed his deficiencies

Summary:

With the upcoming LS elections and Congress’ 3rd tenure looking unsure, the talk of a stable opposition has never been more urgent. We look back at few of the anti-ruling party movements that were the talk of the nation in the late 70s, when Indira Gandhi boycotted the Congress and yet, went on to become the Prime Minister of India. Arvind Kejriwal’s weakness as a ruling minister is also discussed. Was he better off in the opposition or could he go on to do an Indira Gandhi in 2014 elections?

Recommendation 3 from ‘Project Syndicate’

Article Name:Stop Subsidizing Climate Change

By: Michael Marder

Waith the world all set to exhaust its Carbon budgets by 2030, where does the new hope for a sustainable future lie?”

Summary:

As the big global powers meet soon for the Warsaw Climate negotiations, hopes for a sustainable future are on an all time low. With every one dollar being spent on efficient energy resources, six dollars are spent on fuel subsidies that further encourage environment degradation. With our fuel reserves touching a new low, where is the hope for generating new sustainable and renewable sources of energy?
