Recommendation 1 from ‘The New York Times’
Article Name:‘How should the U.S. support returning veterans?’’
By: ‘Editorial’
Government needs to help all the war veterans in every way, so that they can get back on their feet. It shouldn’t be a topic of debate, but a responsibility of government that people who have served us, settle back in life. Further, it is also the prerogative of the society to make war veterans a part of society by being a support system.
Summary:
It is a topic for debate in the paper. It states that more and more veterans are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, consequently they need jobs and also mental and physical health care. Hence, the topic gives platform to people to share the way they think the veterans can be supported to settle back in life. For e.g. Michael Blecker states that helping them a good job is a good start in every case and another debater states that regardless of why a veteran becomes homeless, he/she can become a part of the communities all over again.

By: ‘Editorial’
The word ‘nazi’ bring back the images of racial attack on people that we must have seen in our history books. The open letter is in the right direction, as it informs people as to what exactly is happening and what exactly will happen if everything happens the way it is happening. When they say they refuse to accept, it indicates that this time there will be fight if people are forced to fear for themselves and their families for being what they are.
Summary:
The article is basically an open letter in which Benjamin Abtan, Bernard-Henri Lévy, Elie Wiesel, Amélie Nothomb and many others are imploring Europe to reject the extreme right. This has happened because slowly and steadily Europe is witnessing the revival of neo-Nazi, as it happened in Greece, where a Neo-Nazi party Golden dawn made its way into the parliament. Recommendation 3 from ‘The Times of India’
Article Name:‘Gujarat village that puts metros to shame’
By: ‘Bharat Yagnik’
This village should be taken as a model for al the metros and even more villages in the country. It indicates that the higher purpose in this case has been sustainable development and well being of people. And taking this into consideration even people have cooperated for the same, as the article states. The utilisation of funds in this case is something that you don’t get to hear these days, as most of it is bungled up by the politicians. Perhaps, we need to develop each block of a district on the same lines, as development is only possible when there is individual development on level as low as the block.
Summary:
The article is talking about a village called Punsari in Gujarat, which as the article states, puts the metros to shame. The best part about the village is that all the money that it has raised is out of central and state government schemes. It boasts of optical fibre broadband, air conditioned classrooms and above all village panchayat pays the premium of Rs 25 lakh for the insurance of each of 6,000 villagers. Further, today the village’s cash deposits have soared to Rs 75 lakh. And all this has happened when village had only the deposit of Rs25,000 five years ago. Article sates that this turn around happened when village sold part of its grazing land to various communities. On interesting fact that the article has pointed out is that there is not a single NRI family, hence there is no chance that even a single penny has come from any NRI.
