Recommendation 1 from ‘The Guardian’
Article Name:‘Marcel Theroux: life with Ukraine’s street children’
By: ‘Marcel Theroux’
The article has described the life of children who literally live underground in Ukraine and make use of sniffing substances, to suppress cold and hunger as it gives rise to hallucinations. They take food from the bins. Writer states that Ukraine’s market is doted with upend stores and Ukraine is spending a fortune to host Euro 2012 by spending almost $700m. Amidst all this, there is this one section of kids who live on streets and some are affected by HIV, with the base arte of infection higher than 1%.
Summary:
Why is Ukraine spending so much on Euro 2012 when the future of the country is living in pipes? Sounds like a cruel game played by the policy makers. In fact, this stands true for any country, if there is a section of population dying of hunger there is no point spending millions on a game and improving the image of the country. Where are the social reforms?

Recommendation 2 from ‘The Times of India’
Article Name:‘Against the grain’
By: ‘Jug Suraiya’
Writer describes India as unfortunate as who dies of hunger just because it was not able to decide which pile of grain to choose from the two. He compares the situation of India with the current situation. Despite the fact that humongous amount of grain is produced, many people in the country die of want of food. It is mainly due to two reasons, one, government does not have enough storage place to store the grain hence lot of grain goes waste and second, government makes it a point to buy the grain in order to insure that farmers get a price for their produce, which in turn raises prices for the poor. Further, government cannot build storage houses, as it does not want to spend that much amount and if it does it will not be able to buy grain and in this case, granaries will remain empty.
Summary:
Such a pitiful situation and that too for a country, which depends mostly on its agriculture. Despite this, everyday many farmers commit suicide and at the same time many poor people living below poverty line are not able to afford anything to eat. Where does the money go? When recently a scam implicated yet another politician such a situation could never be doubtful. They should not be given any salaries when they have to only bungle money and their salaries should go into paying for such things.
