1. Article 370 scrapped

  • Government of India has scrapped Article 370 of Constitution which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019 paves the way for division of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
  • Jammu and Kashmir will be a Union Territory with a legislature.
  • Ladakh region will be a Union Territory without a legislature.
  • A Union Territory with a legislature, like Delhi, has a partial statehood status, an elected Chief Minister and a council of ministers.
  • A Union Territory without a legislature, like Chandigarh, is ruled directly by Centre and doesn’t have a Chief Minister.

2. Automated Multi-modal Biometric Identification System

  • Maharashtra became first state to adopt an Automated Multi-modal Biometric Identification System.
  • Automated Multi-modal Biometric Identification System is a Digital fingerprint and Iris scanning system to help police investigations.

3. ScooNews Global Educators Fest

  • The 3rd edition of India’s Largest Education Brainstorming Event ‘ScooNews Global Educators Fest’ will be held in Udaipur.
  • Theme: ‘Education for Sustainability: Moving on from conformity to creativity’.

4. ‘Innovating for Clean Air’ Initiative

  • India and UK has launched ‘Innovating for Clean Air’ Initiative in Bengaluru.
  • ‘Innovating for Clean Air’ Initiative is led by Innovate UK which is a part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
  • It provides Indian and UK stakeholders opportunities to test interventions related to air quality.

1. Mekong-Ganga Cooperation

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has attended 10th Mekong-Ganga Cooperation in Bangkok, Thailand.

2. Gandhi Nagar model village in Sri Lanka

  • Gandhi Nagar model village in Sri Lanka was built with Indian assistance.
  • 100 model villages are being built with Indian assistance and is named after Mahatma Gandhi.

  • The 50th edition of International Film Festival of India will be held in Goa in November.

1. Space Situational Awareness Control Centre

  • ISRO has laid the foundation stone for Space Situational Awareness Control Centre in Bengaluru.
  • Aim: To the protection of Indian space assets from inactive satellites, pieces of orbiting objects, near earth asteroids.

2. Interim CEO of HSBC

  • Noel Quinn has been appointed as the interim CEO of HSBC replacing John Flint.
  • HSBC Holdings plc is a British multinational banking and financial services holding company. It was the 7th largest bank in the world by 2018, and the largest in Europe, with total assets of US$2.558 trillion.

3. Pashmina Testing Centre

  • Bureau of Indian Standards in collaboration with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council has set up Pashmina Testing Centre in Leh.
  • Pashmina is a fine type of cashmere wool. The textiles made from it were first woven in Kashmir. The name comes from Persian. meaning “made from wool”.
  • Bureau of Indian Standards Director General: Surina Rajan.
  • The Bureau of Indian Standards is the national Standards Body of India working under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India.

4. ‘Save Green, Stay Clean’ Campaign

  • West Bengal Government has launched awareness campaign ‘Save Green, Stay Clean’.
  • Aim:- To preserve the greenery and keeping the environment clean.
  • More than 1 lakh saplings throughout the state for spreading of greenery.

  • The 2019 Joan Gamper Trophy was the 54th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, an annual friendly football match held in August every year.

3. 2019 Audi Cup

  • The 2019 Audi Cup was the sixth edition of the Audi Cup, a two-day association football tournament that featured four teams and was played at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
  • The competition featured the hosts Bayern Munich, Spanish side Real Madrid, English side Tottenham Hotspur, and Turkish side Fenerbahçe.
