1. Narcissistic
• Having or showing an excessive interest in or admiration of oneself and one’s physical appearance.
Usage: A narcissistic actress.
2. Ghettoization
• The process of becoming a ghetto, an isolated and underprivileged urban area. The process of ghettoizing (a group): the segregation/isolation of a group and placement of that group into a figurative or literal position of little power.
Usage: Another researcher views nursing as being identified with a docile female role, which has led to a ghettoization of the career field.
3. Obfuscation
• Obfuscation is the obscuring of the intended meaning of communication by making the message difficult to understand, usually with confusing and ambiguous language.
Usage: The photos were released by an opposition lawmaker who said she was frustrated by the government’s inaction and obfuscation.
4. Prerogative
• A right or privilege exclusive to a particular individual or class.
Usage: In some countries, higher education is predominantly the prerogative of the rich.
5. Prelude
• a) An action or event serving as an introduction to something more important.
Usage: A ceasefire had been agreed as a prelude to full peace negotiations.
• b) An introductory piece of music, most commonly an orchestral opening to an act of an opera, the first movement of a suite, or a piece preceding a fugue.
Usage: The prelude should be composed of all music from the Star Wars films, with the exception of the songs being used elsewhere.
6. Cabal
• A secret political clique or faction. A cabal is a secret plot, or a small group of people who create such a plot.
Usage: Some conspiracy theories are based on the idea that governments worldwide are in the hands of a powerful cabal.
7. Confrontationist
• The act of confronting or the state of being confronted, especially a meeting face to face.
• A conflict involving armed forces: a nuclear confrontation.
• Discord or a clash of opinions and ideas: an age of ideological confrontation.
Usage: An essay that brought elements of biography, autobiography, and general European history into powerful, meaningful confrontation.
8. Skirmish
• An episode of irregular or unpremeditated fighting, especially between small or outlying parts of armies or fleets.
Usage: The unit was caught in several skirmishes and the commanding officer was killed.
9. Justness
• The quality or state of being just, equitable, or right.
Usage: His justness was never doubted. Conformity to fact or rule.
10. Gratuitously
• a) Without good reason; unjustifiably.
Usage: In the days before our meeting, I read a review of his new book that was so gratuitously spiteful, it fairly took the breath away.
• b) Free of charge.
Usage: His care was provided gratuitously.
