Word-1: Onslaught
Meaning: Something is a very violent, forceful attack against them.
Synonyms: Aggression, assault, blitz, incursion, invasion, offensive, onset, charge, offense, onrush, assailment, onfall.
Usage Examples:
1. Could my various injuries withstand the onslaught?
2. The neighborhood service centers, however, survived the council onslaught.
3. In 471 Euric launched his first onslaught against Clermont.
Word-2: Coup
Meaning: A sudden decisive exercise of force in politics and especially the violent overthrow or alteration of an existing government by a small group.
Synonyms: Action, overthrow, plot, revolution, accomplishment, deed,exploit, feat,stratagem, stroke, stunt, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. The government announced it had pre-empted a coup attempt.
2. He seized power in a military coup in 1981.
3. The coup leaders could face life imprisonment.
Word-3: Simmering
Meaning: Cooking at a temperature that is slightly below boiling.
Synonyms: Boiling, heated, hot.
Usage Examples:
1. Steam rose from the simmering stew.
2. Your coffee is simmering!
3. Make an infusion by boiling and simmering the rhubarb and camomile together.
Word-4: Expediently
Meaning: In a way that is helpful or useful in a particular situation, but sometimes not morally acceptable.
Synonyms: Apparently, doubtless, no doubt, perhaps, possibly, presumably, seemingly, believably, plausibly, as likely as not, assumably, as the case may be, dollars to doughnuts, feasibly, imaginably, in all likelihood, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. This test instrument can expediently test for gyroplane rotate speed adjusting amplifier. It has certain martial and economic value.
2. To have the data done morely expediently, the communication interface circuit of USB is also added.
3. The charge-mass ratio can be measured expediently by multiple image averaging, fringe thinning and sample analyzing.
Word-5: Burgeoning
Meaning: Is growing, expanding, or developing rapidly.
Synonyms: Fledgling, growing, incipient, nascent, promising, beginning, blossoming, germinal, germinating, maturing, opening, potential, pullulating, sprouting, vegetating, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. Amused by her burgeoning vanity, she dawdled over the unpacking to give Mrs Wallington plenty of unencumbered time with her son.
2. His observations on the burgeoning jazz scene are quite laughable, and typically shot through with self-deception.
3. The stunned pair made a bid for the burgeoning television market.
Word-6: Disdain
Meaning: The feeling of not liking someone or something and thinking that they do not deserve your interest or respect.
Synonyms: Antipathy, arrogance, aversion, contempt, derision, dislike, hatred, pride, ridicule, scorn, contumely, despisal, despite, disparagement, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. He curled his lips in disdain.
2. Why does he treat his father with such disdain?
3. My suggestion was received with disdain.
Word-7: Hazardous
Meaning: Implies great and continuous risk of harm or failure.
Synonyms: Dicey, difficult, perilous, precarious, risky, uncertain, unhealthy, unsafe, unsound, chancy, hairy, haphazard, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. Eating in East Berlin used to be a hazardous and joyless experience.
2. Breathing asbestos – laden air may be hazardous to health.
3. Wintry conditions are making roads hazardous for drivers in the northeast of England.
Word-8: Outlander
Meaning: A person who belongs to another region, culture, or group : foreigner, stranger.
Synonyms: Foreigner, outsider, alien, greenhorn, immigrant, newcomer, stranger, émigré, fresh off the boat, incomer.
Usage Examples:
1. Harpy Queen: Come, sisters! It’s been too long since we feasted on outlander flesh!
2. Dannl’s gambling skills won them a pair of Republic official uniforms, which they wore to the Outlander Club that night.
3. I think I see what your problem is, my civilized friend. You are not sure if I will act in the best interest of the Empire, being an outlander.
Word-9: Debunked
Meaning: To show that something is less important, less good, or less true than it has been made to appear.
Synonyms: Disenchanted, embittered, broken, disabused, enlightened, freed, knowing, punctured, shattered, sophisticated, undeceived, blasé, brought down to earth, disenthralled, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. Ghosts, psychics, dowsing, the “shroud,” take your pick, have all been debunked to the very limits of pointlessness.
2. With employment less than full and Net National Product suboptimal, all the debunked mercantilist arguments turn out to be valid.
3. The spider can also jump, but the common belief that it can use its patterned flaps to glide through the air is an urban myth which has been debunked by the Australasian Arachnological Society.
