1. NCERT Adds New Chapter About National War Memorial in 7th Grade Curriculum

  • Aiming to foster a sense of patriotism and instill core values in students, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has incorporated a new chapter in the Class 7 English textbook. Titled “A Tribute to Our Gallant Soldiers,” the chapter offers a deep dive into the history and significance of the National War Memorial.
  • Also known as “Rashtriya Samar Smarak” in Hindi, the memorial stands as an enduring testament to the soldiers who gave their lives for the country after it gained independence. First opened to the public in January 2019, the monument has a unique position in the collective consciousness of India.

2. New Delhi to House Climate Change and Health Hub in Collaboration with Asian Development Bank

  • India is gearing up to establish a center focusing on climate change and health in its capital, New Delhi, in alliance with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The hub aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, foster collaborations and innovations, and extend support to nations beyond the G-20, particularly those that are developing.
  • The hub will emphasize the creation of health systems that are resilient to climate change, are low-carbon and low-emission, and provide high-quality healthcare. It will also identify and address new and existing risk factors using scientific methods while bolstering current systems for monitoring infectious diseases.

3. President Murmu Unveils Coin Honoring Former Andhra Pradesh CM N T Rama Rao

  • In a ceremony at the prestigious Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, President Droupadi Murmu revealed a coin commemorating the late actor and three-term Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N T Rama Rao.
  • During the event, the President acknowledged N T Rama Rao’s significant contributions to both Indian cinema and cultural heritage, particularly through his extensive work in Telugu movies.

4. President Murmu Unveils Stamp in Memory of Dadi Prakashmani

  • President Draupadi Murmu introduced a postage stamp to commemorate Dadi Prakashmani on her 16th death anniversary. This is part of the ‘My Stamp’ initiative from the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications.

5. IDFC First Bank Secures Three-Year Sponsorship for BCCI Home Matches at Rs 4.2 Crore per Game

  • On August 25th, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a three-year sponsorship agreement with IDFC First Bank. The bank will contribute Rs. 4.2 crore for each international match hosted in India.
  • The sponsorship covers 56 matches over the next three years, which includes 15 ODIs, 15 Test matches, and 26 T20 games. This contractual relationship kicks off with the three-game ODI series against Australia, marking the inception of a new collaborative era between IDFC First Bank and BCCI.

6. Nine Successful Years for Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)

  • PMJDY, a national mission for financial inclusion initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2014, has successfully completed nine years. It has emerged as one of the world’s most expansive financial inclusion programs, aiming to break the cycle of poverty for the economically disadvantaged.
  • Over 50 crore people have been included in the formal banking sector through this initiative, with women constituting approximately 55.5% of account holders. Rural and semi-urban regions make up 67% of these accounts.
  • Dr. Bhagwat Kisanrao Karad, the Union Minister of State for Finance, highlighted that the scheme has eradicated financial exclusion, allowing marginalized populations access to credit, insurance, pensions, and financial literacy.
