2. Tata Motors Acquires Ford India Manufacturing Plant

  • Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML) announced in January 2022 its intention to purchase the Sanand facility in Gujarat from Ford India Pvt Ltd (FIPL) for ₹725.7 crore.
  • FIPL’s automobile production operations in Sanand, including all lands, buildings, vehicle production plants, equipment, and the transfer of all qualified personnel, have been entirely acquired by Tata.

3. India to Lead the Wassenaar Arrangement

  • Starting from the beginning of 2023, India will preside over the plenary of the Wassenaar Arrangement for a duration of twelve months.
  • Jaideep Mazumdar, India’s ambassador, took over the chairmanship during the 22nd annual plenary of the Wassenaar Arrangement from Eoin O’Leary, Ireland’s envoy.
  • Jaideep Mazumdar represents India in Vienna at the United Nations and other international organizations. On December 8, 2017, India became the 42nd Participating State of the Wassenaar Arrangement (WA).
  • The Wassenaar Arrangement, initiated in July 1996 in Wassenaar, Netherlands, now includes 42 countries. This voluntary export control regime’s primary aim is to deter member nations from exporting conventional weapons and dual-use products to countries posing a threat to global peace. Information regarding such weapon and technology transfers is exchanged among members.

  • Portugal’s captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has penned a two-and-a-half-year contract with Al-Nassr, a prominent club in the Saudi Arabian Pro League.
