1. Kerala’s Leadership in Drone Surveillance
- Kerala is proudly the first Indian state to incorporate drone surveillance across all its police jurisdictions.
- Pinarayi Vijayan, the state’s Chief Minister, formally provided the police divisions with drones and also conferred drone pilot licenses to the specially trained individuals.
- Apart from this, the Chief Minister also launched a locally developed anti-drone application.
- This move underscores Kerala’s forefront position in police modernization, and with the surging prominence of drones, the development of an anti-drone system is of paramount importance.

3. Vast Collaborates with SpaceX for Commercial Space Station Project
- The space-centric startup, Vast, is set to launch a space station, mirroring the dimensions of a school bus, into the cosmos by late 2025, in partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
- This modular spacecraft, named Haven-1, is projected to be the next generation after the International Space Station (ISS), which is expected to retire its operations by 2030.
- Worth mentioning, NASA had distributed development funds amounting to $415 million in 2021 among four companies, which included giants like Northrop Grumman and Blue Origin.

4. Canara Bank Faces Penalty from RBI
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has levied a penalty of ₹2.92 crore on Canara Bank due to their failure to adhere to multiple regulatory guidelines, including not anchoring interest rates to external benchmarks and unauthorizedly opening savings accounts for ineligible entities.
- The audit of Canara Bank by RBI in July 2020 was triggered by a significant fraud alert raised by another banking institution.
- Post the audit, the RBI determined that Canara Bank did not link interest on retail floating rate loans and MSME loans to an external benchmark.

5. Observance of World Migratory Bird Day on 13th May 2023
- World Migratory Bird Day will be celebrated this year on 13th May, traditionally commemorated worldwide on the second Saturday of May every year.
- The day is consecrated to amplifying the awareness about the pivotal role of migratory birds and the urgency of their conservation.
- This biannual global campaign emphasizes the importance of these avian wonders and the necessity for their safeguarding. Festivities take place both in May and October.
- Initiated in 2006, this event is a collaborative effort of the Secretariat of the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS).
