National Political News:

AAP party grabs 67 of the 70 assembly seats in the just concluded Delhi assembly polls.
BJP reduced to an insignificant 3 seats and the Congress party has failed to open its account.

BJP CM candidate from Delhi Kiran Bedi loses the contest for Krishna Nagar seat to AAP.

2. Bihar’s ruling party JD(U) is in the throes of a crisis.
Nitish Kumar appointed CM Manjhi refuses to step down in favour of Nitish Kumar’s re-elevation as Bihar CM. Manjhi, a Mahadalit is playing that card and is hobnobbing with BJP to secure his CM position.

3. Fresh list of black money holder’s abroad is making waves.
Central Govt. has declared that it will probe all the cases and is in touch with the whistle blower. HSBC’s Switzerland branch is reported to be having these accounts of black money holder’s.

International Political News:

1. U.S., U.K and France have shut their embassies in the gulf state of Yemen.
Shia Muslim group has taken over the Yemen capital city of Sanna. Iranian backed Houthi movement has called this seizure a revolution stating that it wants to rid Yemen of corruption and economic peril.

2. Ukraine continues to be on the boil.
Endless talks between the West and Russia to resolve the 10 month old Conflict between Ukrainian forces and Pro Russia rebels.
There is a danger of proxy war between Russia and the West.
50 people have been killed in Ukraine in recent rocket attacks.
Efforts are on to secure a peace deal and cease fire from 14th Feb between Russian President Putin, German Chancellor Merkel, French President Hollande and Ukrainian President Poroshenko

1. 330 Foreign companies are to participate in the biennial Aero India 2015 show in Bangalore as they gun for make in India drive.
Aero India is a major platform for armament giants, spy and combat drones, mid-air refuellers, advanced missiles, radars, transport planes, helicopters and fighter aircrafts.

2. Ratan Tata makes a personal investment in auto classified portal ‘Car dekho’, a $ 300 million startup venture by Amit and Anurag Jain, both IIT Delhi aluminies.

3. Govt. of India has projected a GDP growth rate of 7.4% in FY15 based on the new CSO guidelines.

1. 57th Grammy awards conclude at Los Angeles, US.
2. Grammy awards were won by ‘Stay with me’ singer Sam Smith a Britisher in the category Record of the year, Song of the year, Best pop vocal album and Best new artist.
Female singer Beyonce Knowles dominated the R&B category for ‘Drunk in love’.
3. Bangalore based Indians Ricky Kej&NeelaVaswani won the Grammies for their work in album ‘Winds of Samsara’ and documentary on Malala Yousafzai Nobel laureate respectively.

Sports:

1. In the national games at Thiruvanthapuram, Haryana lad Dharambir breaks the 100 meter sprint national records by clocking 10.46 seconds.
Women’s 100 meter sprint record was also broken by Dutee Chand in 11.76 seconds.
New records were also setup in other track and field events.

2. The Cricket World Cup begins with a bang in Australia.
In the opening match at Melbourne favorites Australia smash England with a 111 run win.
Australian batsman Finch scored 135 followed by Bailey 55 and Maxwell 66 in Aussies 342 in 50 overs. England replied with 231 in 41.5 overs with Taylor remaining unbeaten with 98.

In the second Match at Christchurch, New Zealand, New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by scoring 331 for 6 in 50 overs, against their 233 all out.

In Adelaide India get off to a fine start by beating Pakistan by 76 runs. India scored 300/7 in 50 overs and Pakistan replied with 224 all out. Virat Kohli scored 107 in the match. The top-scorer for Pakistan was Misbah-ul-Haq who scored 76 runs.

In Hamilton N.Z, South Africa 339/4 in 50 overs beat Zimbabwe 277 all out 48.2 overs.
South Africa’s Miller and Duminy scored 138 and 115 not out respectively.
