Gopi Thotakura Becomes First Indian Space Tourist
- Gopi Thotakura, an Indian expatriate, has achieved the milestone of being the first Indian to travel into space.
- As part of the NS-25 mission of Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin program, Thotakura was one of the six astronauts aboard the New Shepard spacecraft, which launched from a private site in West Texas.
Significant Increase in SC Student Enrollment
- The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) has reported a substantial increase in the enrollment of Scheduled Caste (SC) students from the academic year 2014-15 to 2021-22.
- The figures show a rise from 4.61 million to 6.62 million, marking a 44% increase.
- Enrollment among SC females rose by 51%. Similarly, the enrollment of Scheduled Tribe (ST) students increased by 65.2%, from 1.641 million to 2.71 million, and female ST enrollment saw an 80% increase.
- There was also a 42.3% rise in the enrollment of minority females, from 1.07 million to 1.52 million.
