National News
1. Indian Army team climb Mount Everest without using oxygen cylinders.
- A team of four Indian Army personnel successfully climbed Mount Everest without using oxygen cylinders.
- They have become the first team to scale the world’s highest peak without supplementary oxygen.
- More than 4,000 people have so far climbed the 8,848-metre peak, of which only 187 people have done this without oxygen on individual basis.
- Mount Everest is Earth’s highest mountain having height of 8,848 m.
2. IIT Kharagpur develops Ambu Sens.
- IIT Kharagpur has developed a wireless technology to remotely monitor condition of patients ferried in ambulances.
- ‘AmbuSens’, the technology has been developed in the SWAN lab of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur.
- It is capable of wireless monitoring of various physiological parameters like ECG, heart-rate, temperature and blood-pressure.
- It can be used to ensure remote monitoring of patient condition by the doctors even before they reach the hospital.
3. Samsung to setup technical schools.
- Samsung India has signed a MoU with the Ministry of MSME for setting up two new Samsung Technical Schools in Bengaluru and Jamshedpur.
- The company announced MSME-Samsung Technical School Scholarship programme, under which 1,000 girls and differently-abled trainees will be given a grant of up to Rs. 20,000.
- Samsung already runs 10 such schools in collaboration with Departments of Technical Education.
4. SEBI forms committee on corporate governance.
- Markets regulator SEBI has set up a committee to improve the standards of corporate governance of listed companies.
- The committee will be setup under the chairmanship of Uday Kotak, chief of Kotak Mahindra Bank.
- The committee would make recommendations to SEBI on ensuring independence in spirit of independent directors.
- The panel would also suggest measures for addressing issues faced by investors on voting and ways for improving effectiveness of board evaluation practices.

1. Leo Varadkar to be next Ireland PM.
- Ireland’s governing Fine Gael party has elected Indian origin Leo Varadkar to become Republic of Ireland’s next Prime Minister.
- He will become Ireland’s youngest ever and first gay Prime Minister.

2. UN Security Council expands sanctions against North Korea.
- UN Security Council unanimously passed a resolution with new sanctions against North Korea after it launched its ninth ballistic missile test of the year.
- The new sanctions extend a travel ban and asset freeze on high-level North Korean officials and state entities that deal with the program.
- The U.N. resolution sanctions four North Korean entities, which include trading firms Koryo Bank and the Strategic Rocket Force of the Korean People’s Army as well as fourteen people.
- The U.N. Security Council first imposed sanctions on Pyongyang in 2006 over its ballistic missile and nuclear programs.

3. Chinese malware ‘Fireball’ hits computers globally.
- A Chinese malware named ‘Fireball’ has infected over 250 million computers worldwide.
- The new threat called “Fireball” is designed to hijack browsers to change the default search engine and track their web traffic on behalf of a Beijing-based digital marketing firm called Rafotech.
- Fireball has the ability to spy on victims, perform efficient malware dropping, and execute any malicious code in the infected machines.
- Countries like India and Brazil are worst hit with close to 25 million infected machines each.

1. Vivo becomes smartphone sponsor for FIFA World Cup.
- Vivo has become the official sponsor for the 2018 and 2022 editions of FIFA World Cup.
- Vivo has signed an agreement with International Federation of Association Football to sponsor the FIFA World Cup for six years.
- It will pay about 60-70 million euros a year to sponsor tournaments.
- Vivo sponsors the Indian Premier League and Pro Kabaddi League in India.
- 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia while 2022 edition will be held in Qatar.

1. Lionel Messi theme park to open in China.
- Lionel Messi’s amusement park “Messi Experience Park” will open in China in 2019.
- The park will use virtual and augmented reality to re-run the highlights of his career and take people through training sessions with a VR Messi.
- Messi hopes it would inspire a new generation of footballers in China.
- Mediapro will run the theme park along with Phoenix Group.
- Messi is an Argentine footballer who plays as a forward for Barcelona and the Argentina national team.
2. Nitin Kumar wins boys singles title.
- Indian wild card Nitin Kumar Sinha defeated Malaysian player Christian Didier Chin to win the boys singles title of HCL Asian Junior Tennis Championship.
- Nitin defeated Chin 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in a final match.
