Ram Nath Kovind Nominated For President by BJP
- Ram Nath Kovind (age 71), the present Governor of Bihar has been announced as BJP’s presidential nominee.
- He is an advocate and has practised in both the Delhi HC and the Supreme Court.
- He has been a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh for two consecutive terms from 1994-2000 and 2000 – 2006.
- He has also served as the national spokesperson for BJP and was appointed as the governer of Bihar on 8th August 2015.
Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai has become the 1st Indian building to get trademark.
- The iconic building, Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai has become the 1st Indian building to get trademark.
- It was built in 1903 and has been a defining structure of Mumbai’s Skyline.
- Other properties all over the world which have a trademark are: the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower and Sydney Opera House.
- The trademark essentially signifies that no one can use Taj Mahal Palace’s images for commercial purposes without paying the company a licensing fee.
No departure card from July 1
- Travel is all set to become hassle free from July 1, 2017. The Govt. has decided to discontinue the practice of filling up of the departure card by Indians at all international airports from July 1.
- The departure card contains passenger details such as name, date of birth, passport number, address in India, flight number and date of boarding.
- However, departure cards will continue for those going out of the country via rail, seaport and land.
Punjab announces mohalla clinics, health insurance for all
- To ensure better health facilities in the state, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has announced that his Govt will establish wellness mohalla (ward) clinics across the state.
- At the vidhan sabha, he said that the govt. is also working towards providing health insurance to all citizens.

1. China planning to send mini-ecosystems to Moon next year
- In a first, China planning to send mini-ecosystems to Moon next year. These will be containing potato seeds and silkworm eggs.
- The aim of this mission is to study how the organisms develop on the lunar surface and to prepare for future moon landings and possible human inhabitants.
- The 3-kilogramme mini-ecosystem, developed by research teams led by Chongqing University in China, will be sent to the Moon in 2018.
2. South Korea to end use of nuclear power
- New president of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, has vowed to phase out the country’s dependence on nuclear power.
- He has taken this decision citing warning of “unimaginable consequences” from a Fukushima-style meltdown.
- He also said he would increase the role of renewable energy and lead South Korea towards a “nuclear-free era”.

1. Lockheed Martin signs pact with Tata
- Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) have signed a pact for the production of F-16 Block 70 fighter planes in India.
- This partnership strengthens India’s Make in India Campaign as the production will be done in India. At the same time they would still retain jobs in US.
- Lockheed Martin is world’s largest defence contractor and this pact will help India produce, operate and export the newest and most advanced version of the F-16 Block 70 aircraft
2. SRK buys team in South Africa T20 league
- Shahrukh Khan, who owns a stake in the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders has been handed the ownership of team of Cape Town.
- Cricket South Africa lunched its new T20 Global League in London, the competition is set to start in November, with the final to be played on December 16.

1 .Pakistan wins Champions Trophy title
- In a shocking upset, Pakistan Beat India by 180 runs at the Oval ground in Britain’s capital, London to win the 2017 Champions Trophy.
- India-Pakistan has one of the greatest sporting rivalries. Pakistan finally ended an eight-year run of not having beaten India in an ICC event.
- This has been one of the greatest wins for Pakistan after the 1992 World Cup
2. India beat Pak 7-1 in hockey, largest win ever over Pakistan
- The good news for the jilted cricket lovers in India is that India beat Pakistan 7-1 to register their third consecutive victory and seal a place in the quarter-finals of the Hockey World League Semi-Final.
- This was was India’s biggest over Pakistan, bettering the 7-4 effort against arch-rivals in 2003 Champions Trophy and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
- This was India’s 56th win over Pakistan in the 168th Hockey match between the two nations.
