1. Microsoft India to equip 55,000 Indian Schools with digital classes.

  • Microsoft India signed MoU with NISA(National Independent school Alliance) to equip 55,000 schools across 21 Indian states with digital classroom.
  • This program will help to create an enabling ecosystem for budget private schools to improve accessibility, affordability and quality of education.

2.Himachal Pradesh DGP Sanjay Kumar appointed new NDRF chief.

  • Himachal Pradesh Director general of police(DGP) Sanjay Kumar has been appointed as the new chief of National Disaster Response Force(NDRF). He is a 1985-batch Indian Police service(IPS) officer.
  • The post was vacant since incumbent R K Pachnanda was appointed as the chief of Indo-Tibet Border Police(ITBP).

3. Achal Kumar Joti appointed next chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

  • Ex-Gujarat chief secretary Achal Kumar Joti will succeed Nasim Zaidi as a Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
  • Joti, a retired 1975 batch IAS officer has been appointed as an Election Commissioner(EC) in May 2015.

4.India offers $11 billion in Iranian gas deal.

  • A consortium led by ONGC(Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) willing to spend $11 billion to develop Farzad-B gas field in Iran.
  • The two countries has aimed to conclude a deal by February on developing the field, which holds 19 trillion cubic feet.

International News

1. Sri Lanka’s worst-ever dengue outbreak kills 225.

  • Sri Lanka is suffering its worst-ever dengue outbreak.
  • The mosquito borne virus has killed 225 people and infected more than 76,000 this year. Alarmingly this is 38% higher than last year.

2. Israeli flower named after PM Narendra Modi

  • In the historic visit of PM Modi to Israel, Israeli Chrysanthemum flower has been named as ‘MODI’.
  • Modi has visited the Danziger flower farm along with his counterpart Benjamin Netyanyahu as a prt of his three-day visit.

3. French PM Edouard Philippe wins overwhelming majority in parliament.

  • French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe overwhelmingly won the confidence vote in National Assembly.
  • Philippe won the confidence vote in France’s lower house of parliament by huge margin ,370-67.

1 .Byju’s acquires Tutor Vista and Edurite from Pearson.

  • Education technology startup Byju’s has acquired global education company Pearson Plc.’s TutorVista and Edurite for an undisclosed amount.
  • Byju’s has raised close Rs.1300 crore in equity and debt funding since its inception in 2011.

2.BookMy show buys restaurant search engine Burp for Rs.6.7 lakh.

  • Mumbai-based online ticketing platform BookMy show has acquired local restaurant discovery platform Burp in Slump Sale.
  • Intrestingly the net worth of Burp, which is India’s one of the oldest food-tech businesses stood at a negative Rs.28.89 crore on 31st march 2017.

3. Justdial CFO Ramkumar Krishnamachari announces resignation

  • Ramkumar Krishnamachari Chief Financial Officer(CFO) of local business search engine Justdial ltd. Has resigned from the firm.
  • Justdial, which was founded by VSS Mani in 1996, is one of a few digital businesses to get listed on stock exchanges.

4.Tata Global Beverages appoints Tata Sons head as chairman.

  • Tata Global Beverages(TGBL) appointed Tata Sons head N Chandrashekharan as an additional director and Chairman of the Board of Company.
  • N Chandrashekharan will replace Harsih Bhat .Earlier Harish Bhat replaced ousted Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry in November 2016

Sports News
1. India submits an expression of Interest in hosting FIFA U-20 World CUP 2019

  • The All India Football Federation(AIFF) has submitted an expression of interest to host the U-20 FIFA World Cup scheduled to in 2019
  • AIFF president Praful Patel has said that hosting the FIFA U-20 WC would be next “logical step for development of football in India”.

2. Federer and Djokovic progress after opponent retires.

  • Seventh time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer and Serbia’s world number four Novak Djokovic progressed to Wimbledon’s second round after their respective opponents retired mid-match
