1. Venkaiah Naidu and Gopal Krishna Gandhi file nominations for Vice President Poll
- Venkaiah Naidu was nominated as the BJP candidate for Vice Presidential Elections by PM Modi, Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj and BJP President Amit Shah.
- Gopal Krishna Gandhi will be the opposition candidate from Congress.
- The Vice President election will be held on August 5.
2. H1N1 claims 5 lives this month
- The cases of H1N1 have gone up to 874 since January with 672 in Mumbai alone.
- BMC officials said the fluctuation in temperature and high moisture content in the air are conductive for the spread of H1N1.
3. Aling PoK resident to get visa
- A resident of Rawalkot in PoK was diagnosed with a tumour in his liver and wants to seek a treatment in Delhi.
- External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj waved the condition of a letter from Pakistan’s Foreign Advisor Sartaj Aziz and said he would be allowed to come here as PoK was an integral part of India.
4. Barak bridge collapse cuts off Manipur from rest of India
- Barak bridge, also known as the second lifeline of the border state collapsed and detached Manipur from the rest of India.
- The bridge collapsed when a 10-wheeler goods laden truck was passing through it.
International News
1.China begins commercial production of CH-5 Rainbow Drone
- It is a rival to the US unmanned aerial vehicle MQ-9 reaper which could attack targets on the ground, but at half cost.
- However, Reaper can operate between 12000 to 15000 meters whereas CH-5 can go only up to 9000 meters.
2. Hackers steal Rs.45 crore worth digital currency in 3 minutes
- The hackers stole digital currency Ether by tricking the victims into sending money to the wrong web address.
- They had changed the address posted by Coindash to get funds from investors.
3.Indonesia’s Parliament speaker named corruption suspect
- Speaker Satya Novanto was named by Indonesia’s anti-graft agency as a suspect in corruption scandal in which officials allegedly pocketed about USD170 million Government money.
- The Chief of Corruption Eradication Commission Agus Rahardjo said that they have sufficient evidence to prove him as a suspect in the case.

1 .India’s GDP could rise to USD 8 trillion over next 15 years : Arvind Panagariya
- NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya said it will take place if the country registers an economic growth of 8% annually and eliminates abject poverty.
- He also added that the average income would be over USD 5000. Moreover, a large part of the population will be prosperous.
2. Flipkart revises Snapdeal buyout offer to USD 900 to 950 million
- Flipkart is believed to have sent a revised offer to Snapdeal. Previously Snapdeal rejected an offer of USD 850 million from Flipkart.
- If completed, the deal would mark the biggest acquisition in the Indian e-commerce space.
3. LG unveils device that disinfects handrails of escalators
- South Korean company LG designed a steriliser that uses ultraviolet light to continuously disinfect the rubber handrailing of escalator.
- The device charges itself by converting escalator movement into electricity.
4. International deal designed to expose off shore tax cheats
- Under the Common Reporting Standard, the countries will share information about bank accounts held by non-residents .
- 101 countries have signed the agreement.

1.Francesco Totti retires after playing 25 years
- Italian Footballer legend played for Seria A club Roma for his entire career in football.
- He made his debut for the club when he was 16 and featured in 786 matches and scored 307 goals.
2. Dabang Smashers back on target
- After the defeat to Shaze Challengers, Dabang Smashers reworked their strategy.
- They got back on track with a 14-13 victory over Falcons in the Ceat Ultimate Table Tennis League in Chennai.
