1. UP launches free power connection scheme for BPL families.
- Uttar Pradesh Power Minister Shrikant Sharma launched free power connection scheme for BPL families at 624 places across the state.
- The scheme will also provide relief to middle class families with installment payment facility
2. Six-Week training compulsory for engineering diploma in Maharashtra.
- Maharashtra education board has introduced a compulsory six-week internship in the last year of diploma engineering courses.
- The decision was taken after the number of admission seeking students declined by 38% in the last two years.
3. Lucknow metro to be India’s 1 st with own FM radio station.
- The Lucknow metro will become India’s 1 st to have its own FM radio station.
- It will offer travelers with ‘Go Smart’ cards drinking water, toilet facilities and Wi-Fi free of charge.
4. UR Rao, man behind India’s first satellite passes away at 85.
- Former chief of ISRO, Udupi Ramchandra Rao, passed away,he was 85.
- He was chairman of Indian Space Research Organization during 1984 to 1994, he is credited for India’s first Satellite ‘Aryabhtta’.
- He was awarded with India’s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan by the Government in 2017.
International News
1. Taliban suicide car bomber kills at least 24 in Kabul.
- At least 24 people have been killed and 42 wounded after a car bomb struck a bus carrying government employees in western Kabul.
- The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the horrific attack.
2. China opens cinema hall in disputed SCS island.
- China has opened a modern cinema theater on Yongxing Island in the disputed South China Sea.
- Over 200 residents and Chinese soldiers watched Chinese movie ‘The eternity of Jiao Yulu’. This comes as part of its plan to establish authority over the area.
3. Iran, Iraq sign deal to boost military cooperation.
- Iran and Iraq signed an agreement to step up military cooperation and fight against “terrorism and extremism”.
- Iran-Iraq ties improved since Iran’s long time enemy Saddam Hussein was toppled in 2003 and an Iraqi Government led by Shi’ite Muslims came to power.
4. Don’t underestimate our determination to safeguard national security., China warns India.
- China warned India not to “push your luck” by underestimating its determination to safeguard what it considers sovereign Chinese territory.
- India has called for both sides to withdraw forces and a negotiated settlement to the standoff

1. United Spirits Q1 profit rises 43.6% despite decline in revenue.
- United Spirits Ltd(USL) Q1 profit rose 43.6% even as revenue fell 0.5%.
- Fall of revenue come after Supreme Court’s last year decision to ban alcohol sales near Highways.
2. Bill to replace Banking Regulation Ordinance introduced in LS.
- A Bill to authorise the RBI to direct banking companies to resolve the problem of stressed assets was today introduced in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
- The Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2017, seeks to amend the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 and replace the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2017.
3. Government to sell entire stake in HPCL to ONGC.
- Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) will become India’s third largest oil refiner after state-owned ONGC acquires government’s entire 51.11% stake, statement by Oil Mnister Dharmendra Pradhan.
- After the acquisition by ONGC, HPCL will continue to be a central government public sector enterprise.

1. Chris Froome wins Tour de france 4th time.
- British cyclist Chris Froome won his third consecutive and fourth overall Tour de France title in Paeis on Sunday
- The 3540km 23 days long Grand Tour featured a total of 198 riders this year.
2. India finishes with 5 medals in world Para Athletics Championship.
- The Indian contigent at the World Para Athletics Championship ended its campaign with 5 medals in London.
- India won 5 medals including a gold, two silver and two bronze finishing at 32nd place.
3. HS Pranoy beats P Kashyap to lift his 3rd US Open Title.
- In its all India final of US Open, HS Pranoy defeated P Kashyap to lift his 3rd US Open Grand Prix Gold Tournament.
- Interestingly, this was third all-India final this year after Singapore Open and Sayed Modi International Badminton Championships.
