1. Nation is celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas.

  • Nation is celebrating 18th Kargil Vijay Divas to remind India’s military prowess and the great sacrifice of our soldiers.
  • On July 26, 1999, Indian army succeeded in reclaiming all the posts in Kargil region from Pakistan.

2. BRO to construct tunnels to cut down distance to China border.

  • The Border road organization(BRO) is planning to construct two tunnels through 4170 meter high Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh
  • This will cut distance to China border by 10km.

3. Rajnath Singh chairs first meeting of Island development agency.

  • Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired first meeting of newly constituted Island Development agency(IDA).
  • The IDA was set up on June 01, 2017 following the Prime Minister’s review meeting for the development of islands.

4. Won’t declare 39 missing in Mosil as dead: Susma Swaraj.

  • Government will not declare 39 missing in Mosul since 2014 as dead, said External Affairs Minister Susma Swaraj
  • Forty Indians, most of them from Punjab, went missing in June 2014 after Mosul fell to the Islamic State.

International News

1. BRICS Youth forum opens in Beijing.

  • The 2017 BRICS Youth Forum opened in Beijing, China to discuss the development of the youth in countries of the BRICS nations.
  • BRICS which was constituted in 2009, has participating nations Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa.

2.Sri Lanka clears revised deal for Hambantota port.

  • Sri Lanka’s Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a revised deal for the Chinese-built port in Hambantota. According to this deal 70% shares of Southern port will be owned by state run China Merchant ports for $1.12bn.
  • The Hambantota port was built with Chinese loans in 2010 during Mr. Rajapaksa’s term.

3. Britan to ban New Petrol and Diesel cars from 2040.

  • Britan is planning to ban new Petrol and Diesel cars from 2040, according to the satetment of Britan’s environment minister Michael Gove.
  • The government will make 200 million pounds available to local authorities shortly for schemes to restrict diesel vehicles’ access to polluted roads.

4. US approves new sanctions against Russia.

  • The Us house has approved new sanctions against Russia, despite President Donald Trump objecting to the legislation.
  • This comes after Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential elections. The bill will also levy new sanctions against N Korea and I ran over nation’s Ballistic Missile Program.

Business News

1. Dooordarshan plans to replace its logo after 58 years.

  • Dooordarshan, State owned broadcaster is planning to replace its iconic logo.
  • Doordarshan has asked for entries from public seeking a new logo design to improve the look and feel of the network.

2. Sundar Pichai joins Alphabet Board of Directors.

  • Google CEO Sundar Pichai has been appointed to the board of directors of Alphabet, the search giant parent company.
  • Notably, Alphabet Inc is the second most valuable US company behind Apple.
    California based US multinational conglomerate Alphabet’s CEO is Larry Page.

3. Yatra.com acquires Air Travel Bureau.

  • India’s second largest online travel operator, Yatra.com has acquired corporate travel services provider Air Travel Bureau(ATB).
  • ATB is India’s largest corporate travel services provider with client base of over 400 companies.

Sports News

1. India to host men’s World Boxing Championship.

  • First time in history India is going to host men’s World Boxing Championship in 2021.
  • Championship will be held in Capital City. Interestingly India is also hosting Women’s World Boxing Championship in 2018.
  • Ajay Singh is the president of Boxing Federation of India.

2. Hockey India League(HIL) canceled for 2018.

  • There will be no Hockey India League (HIL) in 2018 with Hockey India (HI) deciding to give the league a break next year and return in 2019.
  • Speculation on the future of the league had been floating for a while now, citing various reasons including franchise disinterest and financial viability.
