National News

1. First edition of Rural Games to take place in Delhi.

  • Union Mnister of Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Vijay Goel announced that the first edition of Rural Games or Grameen Khel Mahostav will be held in Delhi.
  • The rural games will aim to popularizing the indigenous games like wrestling, athletics etc. and will also have fun games like matka race, tug of war for senior citizens.

2. Goa CM, Health minister wins assembly by polls

  • The BJP has won two key constituencies in Goa, with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane winning in the Panaji and Valpoi bypolls, respectively.
  • With this, the BJP, which doesn’t have a majority on its own in the Assembly, now has 14 seats in the 40-member House, and the coalition government that it heads has the support of 24 members.

3.Ten-year jail term for self styled Goodman Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

  • A special CBI court on Monday sentenced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 20 years in prison after his conviction in a 2002 rape case.
  • CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh, who holds the court in Panchkula, near Chandigarh, pronounced the sentence in a special courtroom set up inside the Sunaria jail in Rohtak.

International News

1. India-China agree to withdraw troops from disputed Doklam region.

  • India and China have agreed to withdraw their troops from Doklam after being in a standoff for over two months.
  • The standoff had started after India objected to China constructing a road in the disputed area.

2. Colombia’s disarmed FARC rebels to launch political party.

  • Colombia’s FARC rebels are in move to launch their own political party at a conference, where they will also declare candidate for next year’s general election .
  • This comes after the 53-year old conflict between the Colombian government and the FARC rebels ended earlier this month.

3.Two day Indian ocean conference to be held in Colombo.

  • Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister will attend two day Indian Ocean conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
  • The theme of the conference is peace, progress and prosperity. 35 countries will participate in the conference.

Business News

1. World’s first diamond futures exchange starts trading in India.

  • Indian Commodity Exchange(ICEX) commenced operatins as the world’s first diamond futures exchange.
  • The exchange is backed by companies like Reliance and MMTC.

2. Dara Khosrowshahi is the new Uber CEO.

  • Dara Khosrowshahi has been appointed the new CEO of Uber. His appointment comes after the former CEO Travis Kalanick stepped down from the post.
  • Dara Khosrowshahi had earlier served as the CEO of Expedia, an online travel firm.

3. Govt notifies changes to Banking Regulation Act.

  • The government has notified the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Act under which it can authorise the RBI to issue directions to banks to initiate insolvency resolution process to recover bad loans.
  • The banking sector is saddled with non-performing assets (NPAs) of over Rs 8 lakh crore, of which Rs 6 lakh crore is with public sector banks (PSBs).

Sports News

1. PV Sindhu wins silver at World Championship.

  • Shutttler PV Sindhu became second Indian to win a silver medal at the Badminton World championships, losing to Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara.
  • Saina Nehwal had won a bronze after losing her semifinal.

2. India clinches ODI series with3-0 lead in 5 match series.

  • India clinched 5 match ODI series against Sri Lanka after claiming six wicket win in 3rd ODI.
  • Interestingly, during 3rd ODI play was disrupted by crowd throwing bottles at players in Kandy, SL.

3. Hamilton wins Belgian Grand Prix
