CAT Vocabulary Preparation: The best book for Vocabulary Prep
One common student query revolves around the resources you should be using for learning new words. And even though we have moved on to digital devices, learning from books still tops as the most preferred method of learning for students. In fact, I prefer hard-copy books to Kindle any given day of the week. The feel of the spine of a book in your hands can never be replicated by a device.
In the same vein, some of you might be searching for the perfect vocabulary book for CAT preparation. As a trainer, I recommend two books for CAT vocabulary prep:
- Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis
- Six weeks to words of power by Wilfred Funk
In this article, I am going to review Word Power. The second book will be reviewed in a follow-up post.
Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis: The perfect Vocab companion for CAT Prep
This book exploits the method of word roots in most wonderful way possible. Written in a conversational style, this book is not heavy to read and its exercises provide ample space for you to learn new words.
The book features 47 sessions in total, clubbed together as chapters. Each of these chapters consists of 2 to 4 sessions that engage you on common set of words. The author wonderfully explores the usage, etymology and roots for these words in the form of a conversational narrative. In fact, if you study with your full attention, you should be able to finish a session in 10 to 15 minutes. Keep up this exercise for about 7 to 8 weeks and you should be done with the whole book. That is how simple it is to learn words through this book.
Do you want a taste of the learning you will experience in this book? We have put up five articles based on Word Power Made Easy sessions that you can use as study notes:
