1. First water ATM inaugurated in Hyderabad.
- The first water ATM has been inaugurated by Telangana state Home minister in Hyderabad.
- A total of 200 ATMs will be set up to reach targeted 1,50,000 people. In the first phase fifty water ATMs will be operationalized by 2018.
2. Assam Government signs MoU with Google to increase Digital literacy.
- In a bid to take internet connectivity to the remotest part of the state, Assam government signed MoU with Google India.
- through the MoU with Google, state government would work to provide Internet connections to 26,000 village and 1,500 tea garden areas to increase digital literacy.
3. Karnataka tops manufacturing excellence: Assocham.
- Karnataka has been ranked top among the states in the country in terms of manufacturing excellence, according to Assocham./li>
- The total investments attracted by states across the country, Karnataka accounted for 6.3% share.
International News
1. Trump regime supports sale of F-16 and F-18 to India.
- The Trump administration has told the U.S Congress that it strongly supports the sale of F-18 and F-16 fighter planes to India, built by American companies Boeing and Lockheed Martin respectively.
- U.S lawmakers and bureaucrats in general have been enthusiastic supporters of selling these fighters to India, and are now presenting them as deals that could reduce America’s trade deficit with India and create more jobs in America than they relocate.
2. Nobel Prize cannot be revoked: Nobel Institute on Suu Kyi.
- The organisation that oversees the Nobel Peace Prize said on Friday that the 1991 prize awarded to Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi cannot be revoked.
- An online petition signed by more than 386,000 people on Change.org is calling for Ms. Suu Kyi to be stripped of her Peace Prize over the persecution of Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslim minority.
- Nobel prize is given annually for the excellent work in Chemistry, Literature, Physics, Medicine or Physiology and peace.
3. ICAR to undertake major research works on agriculture with WB fund.
- The Indian Council for Agricultural Research ICAR will be undertaking major research works on agriculture this year with the World Bank fund of 1100 crore rupees. These funds will be allocated to ten each of the premier agricultural and veterinary universities in the country.
- India ranks first in milk production in the world, the milk yield per animal is very low as compared to international standards.
Business News
1. SIM cards not linked with Aadhar to be deactivated after February 2018.
- The government is moving ahead to deactivate SIM cards which are not linked to Aadhar by Feb 2018.
- The SC had passed an order in February 2017 asking the government to link all SIM cards with Aadhar.
- Aadhar Card is an Unique Identification proof issued by UIDAI.
2. To curb influx of cheaper foreign import, India imposes additional tax on Chinese steel.
- Indai has imposed an additional tax of 18.95% import tax on certain Stainless Steel products from China for five years in order to curb influx of cheaper foreign imports.
- Adding that the imports were distorting the domestic market, the govenrmnet said the move will help local steel makers benefit when there is surge in imports.
Sports News
1. America’s Sloane Stephens clinched her maiden Grand Slam title.
- America’s Sloane Stephens defeated Madison Keys 6-3, 6-0 to lift her first Grand Slam title at the finals of the US Open tournament.
- This was the first Grand Slam final for both players. Interestingly Sloane Stephens’ world rank is 83 and Keys’ world rank is 16.
2. James Anderson becomes World No.1 Test bowler.
- England’s pacer James Anderson replaced India’s Ravindra Jadeja as the top ranked Test Bowler in the latest ICC Test bowler rankings.
- India’s Ravichandar Ashwin is ranked third in the list.
