1. CBI Academy’s Inclusion in Interpol’s Global Network
- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Academy has been inducted into Interpol’s Global Academy Network, a significant announcement made during an online event.
- The Ghaziabad-based CBI Academy is the 10th institute to join this international network, aiming to foster joint training sessions and research projects.
- The Academy focuses on crime investigation, vigilance, and prosecution training. Its inclusion marks a significant enhancement in global police training efforts.
- Previously, the CBI Academy has organized global training sessions in collaboration with international agencies such as the FBI and US Homeland Security.
2. ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ Initiative Begins
- Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde initiated the ‘Meri Mati, Mera Desh’ campaign at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan, with dignitaries like Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar in attendance.
- This campaign celebrates the historic Quit India Movement and emphasizes instilling patriotism.
- The event also showcased the ‘Shilaphalakam’ memorial and kicked off a tree plantation activity called ‘Vasudha Vandan’.
- Mumbai’s civic authority has also planned a plantation drive, naming it ‘Amritvatika’, which will encompass 75 local species.
3. NITIE’s Transition to IIM-Mumbai
- National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) will soon transition to IIM-Mumbai, following the passage of the IIM (Amendment) Bill 2023.
- This will be the 21st IIM and the second one in Maharashtra after IIM Nagpur.
- For the year 2023, NITIE ranked 7th under the NIRF Management Category.
- Located beside Vihar Lake in Powai, the IIM-Mumbai campus will cover 63 acres.
4. Defence Ministry Adopts Local OS, ‘Maya’
- Due to increasing cyber threats, the Defence Ministry has replaced Microsoft OS with ‘Maya’, an indigenously developed operating system based on open-source Ubuntu.
- ‘Maya’ promises a seamless user experience, similar to that of Windows.
- The implementation currently covers Defence Ministry systems, but the three Armed Services are also considering its adoption.
- The government-developed ‘Maya’ aims to counter malware and cyberattacks, and plans are in place for its installation by August 15.
5. INS Chennai Collaborates with Royal Saudi Navy
- INS Chennai conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) 2023 with the Royal Saudi Naval Ship HMS Al Jubail in the Red Sea.
- The port visit to Jeddah aimed to strengthen India-Saudi defense ties.
- These activities demonstrate the growing cooperation between the naval forces of both countries.
