1. National Youth Day
- National Youth Day is celebrated in India on 12 January on the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. In 1984 the Government of India declared the day as the National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.
- The tallest bronze statue (33 ft.) of Swami Vivekanand will be unveiled at an islet of Ranchi Lake aka Bada Talab on National Youths Day – January 12 by CM Raghubar Das

3. India’s longest steel cable suspension bridge
- India’s longest steel cable suspension bridge ‘Byorung Bridge’ is on Siang river in Arunachal Pradesh which is inaugurated by Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
- It is a 300-meter single-lane bridge in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district bordering China.
4. World Hindi Day
- World Hindi Day was observed on 10th January.
- National Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on September 14. On that day in 1949, the constituent assembly adopted Hindi, written in Devanagari script, as the official language of the Union.
- While the World Hindi Day is to promote the Hindi at the global stage
- In 1975. The first World Hindi Conference was inaugurated by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.

1. World’s most powerful passport
- Japan has retained the top position in the world’s most powerful passport list that is Henley Passport Index.
- The Henley Passport Index (HPI) is a global ranking of countries according to the travel freedom for their citizens.It started in 2006 as Henley & Partners Visa Restrictions Index (HVRI) and was modified and renamed in January 2018.The site provides a ranking of the 199 passports of the world according to the number of countries their holders can travel to visa-free. The number of countries that a specific passport can access becomes its visa-free ‘score’. In collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and based on official data from their global database. Henley & Partners has analysed the visa regulations of all the countries and territories in the world since 2006.
2. Gautemala to withdraw from anti-corruption commission

3. Book “We Are Displaced”
- Malala Yousafzai has penned down a new book “We Are Displaced” on Refugee Girls.

4. 2019 Academy Awards without Host
- Oscars 2019 will be held without a host for the 1st time in 30 years.
- The 91st Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will honor the best films of 2018 and will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The ceremony will be held on February 24, 2019.

5. Democracy Index 2019
- Economist Intelligence Unit has released the Democracy Index 2019 for 167 countries in 60 indicators across five broad categories.
- Each country is classified as either a full democracy, flawed democracy, hybrid regime or authoritarian.
- India is at the 41st place as flawed democracies.

1. Gangajal Project
- PM Modi has inaugurated the Gangajal Project in Agra.
- This project will ensure Agra with better and more assured water supply, at an estimated cost of Rs.2880 crores.
2. Reserve Bank of India with Central Bank of Sri Lanka
- RBI has agreed to provide $400 million to CBSL under the SAARC swap facility.
- The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) (Established:28 August 1950) is the monetary authority of Sri Lanka, and the apex institution in the country’s financial sector.
3. 1st State to implement Universal Basic Income
- Sikkim will be the first state to implement Universal Basic Income.
- A Basic Income, also called Universal Basic Income, Citizen’s Income, Citizen’s Basic Income, Basic Income Guarantee, or Universal Demogrant, is a periodic cash payment delivered to all on an individual basis, without means test or work requirement.
4. Exhibitor of the Year Award
- DRDO has received ‘Exhibitor of the Year Award’ at 106th Indian Science Congress in Punjab.
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation is an agency of the Government of India, charged with the military’s research and development, headquartered in New Delhi, India.

- Former world number one Andy Murray will retire in upcoming Australian Open.

3. Left-Arm Spinner Ashutosh Aman
- Ashutosh Aman has surpassed Bishan Singh Bedi as the highest wicket-taker in a Ranji Trophy season.
- The Ranji Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India between teams representing regional and state cricket associations. The competition currently consists of 37 teams, with all 29 states in India and two of the seven union territories having at least one representation.
