  • Larsen & Toubro’s board has officially appointed S N Subrahmanyan as their Chairman and Managing Director, effective October 1, 2023.
  • Subrahmanyan is set to succeed A M Naik, who will conclude his tenure as the Non-Executive Chairman of L&T Group on September 30, 2023.
  • Currently, Subrahmanyan serves as L&T’s CEO and Managing Director.
  • Among his notable achievements, he previously held the position of Deputy MD & President, during which he spearheaded L&T’s infrastructure segment, positioning it as the leading construction entity in the country.

2. IBM’s Collaboration with NASA

  • IBM, in association with NASA, is launching a groundbreaking geospatial foundation model.
  • This initiative aims to transform satellite data into intricate maps that depict events such as floods and wildfires, providing insights into Earth’s past and possible future scenarios.
  • The public is expected to preview this innovation later in 2023, after which it will be incorporated into IBM’s forthcoming enterprise platform, watsonx.ai.

3. Badminton Asia’s Committee Leadership Appointment

  • Umar Rasheed, Badminton Association of India (BAI)’s joint secretary, has been appointed by Badminton Asia to lead the Technical Officials Committee.
  • Rasheed will be responsible for the creation and implementation of rules to elevate officiating standards in national badminton matches.
  • As the General Secretary of the Assam Badminton Association, he has played a pivotal role in promoting badminton in Assam and the broader Northeast region of India.

4. 35th Edition of Indo-Thai Naval Partnership

  • Purpose: Strengthening naval ties between the two nations and ensuring the security of international trade routes in the Indian Ocean.
  • The naval collaboration saw participation from ships such as the indigenous LST (L) INS Kesari and the Chao Phraya Class Frigate HTMS Saiburi.

5. ICC’s Latest Global Sponsorship Deal

  • Mastercard, the renowned global financial company, has been announced as the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s new global sponsor, succeeding BharatPe.
  • This partnership between Mastercard and ICC is set for several years, covering the upcoming four.
  • Recently, Mastercard has also acquired the sponsorship rights for BCCI’s international and domestic matches, taking over from Paytm.
