1. 2023 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song: RRR’s “Naatu Naatu”

  • “Naatu Naatu” from the movie “RRR” directed by SS Rajamouli was awarded the 2023 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
  • The song was composed by the esteemed music director MM Keeravaani and performed by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj.
  • The movie also secured a nomination in the “best picture non-English” category.

2. The KashmirFiles: Nominated for Academy Award 2023

  • “The Kashmir Files”, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, has been shortlisted for the Oscars 2023.
  • Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborthy, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi have been nominated for Best Actor awards.
  • Other Indian movies contending for Academy Awards include “Kantara” by Rishabh Shetty, “Gangubai Kathiawadi” by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, “The Chello Show” by Paan Nalin, and “RRR” by SS Rajamouli.

3. Adar Poonawalla: Recipient of Patangrao Kadam Award

  • Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of vaccine producer Serum Institute of India, was honored with the Patangrao Kadam Award for his contributions to combating the Covid19 virus.
  • Dr. Patangrao Kadam, a noted politician from Maharashtra, is the inspiration behind the award. Poonawalla is the award’s inaugural recipient.

4. Kerala: India’s First State to Go Fully Online in Banking

  • Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced Kerala as the first state in India to transform its entire banking system to digital.
  • Local self-government institutions’ social initiatives, combined with advancements in infrastructure and banking technology, have made this achievement possible.
  • The state government’s ambitious Kerala Fibre Optic Network (KFON) project aims to bridge the digital divide in the state, providing internet access to all its residents.

5. Virat Kohli Matches Sachin Tendulkar’s Record

  • Former Indian cricket captain, Virat Kohli, equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 20 hundreds in One Day Internationals on Indian soil.
  • During the first one-day international against Sri Lanka, he achieved a century in just 80 balls. While it took Sachin 160 innings to reach this milestone, Kohli accomplished it in 99 innings.
  • With this, Kohli surpasses Tendulkar and now stands second all-time with 73 ODI hundreds.

6. Veer Guardian2023: First Bilateral Air Exercise between India and Japan

  • Veer Guardian 2023 marks the first-ever bilateral air exercise between India and Japan.
  • The Hyakuri Air Base in Japan will host this combined air exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) from January 12–26, 2023.
  • For Veer Guardian 2023, the Indian Air Force is deploying four Su30 MKIs, two C17s, and an IL78. On the other hand, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force will bring a formidable squadron consisting of eight F2 and four F15 fighters.

7. A C Charania: NASA’s New Chief Technologist

  • A C Charania, a renowned Indian-American aeronautical engineer, has been appointed NASA’s new Chief Technologist.
  • Prior to his appointment on January 3, 2023, Charania replaced Indian-American scientist Lal as the Chief Technologist. In his new capacity, Charania will be advising NASA Administrator Bill Nelson on technology policy and program development matters.
  • Previously, Charania served as the Vice President of Product Strategy at Reliable Robotics.
