1. Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) Announces New CEO

  • From 27th June 2023, Rohit Jawa will be the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL).
  • Currently, he holds the position of Chief of Transformation for Unilever and is slated for a 5-year term.
  • Sanjiv Mehta, who has been with HUL since 2013, will be succeeded by Jawa.
  • Jawa is also slated to be a part of the Unilever Leadership Executive (ULE).
  • The HUL, headquartered in Mumbai, stands as India’s premier fast-moving consumer goods entity.

2. India Grabs Honors at the ‘Golden City Gate Tourism Awards

  • The Ministry of Tourism of India has secured the Golden and Silver Stars at The International ‘Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023’ in the categories of ‘TV/Cinema Commercials International and Country International’ at ITB, Berlin.
  • Arvind Singh, the Secretary of Tourism, accepted the awards at ITB Berlin, a globally renowned annual tourism trade event.
  • The ‘Golden City Gate’ annual multimedia awards recognize excellence in tourism and hospitality.
  • This competition invites entries globally, encompassing nations, cities, regions, and hotels, with a panel of film and tourism specialists adjudicating the submissions.

3. Contract Signing with HAL for Six Dornier Aircraft

  • A ₹667 crore deal for six Dornier228 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF) has been inked between the defence ministry and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
  • This acquisition aims to augment IAF’s operational strength in isolated regions.
  • Dornier228 is a versatile aircraft, tailored for various transport purposes and maritime observation.
  • Besides serving the IAF in transit and communication roles, this model aids in the training of IAF’s transport pilots.
  • Additionally, the ministry has sealed another deal with Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) for three cadet training vessels, valued over ₹3,100 crore.

4. Shaun Marsh of Australia Bids Adieu to First-class Cricket

  • Shaun Marsh, the former Australian opening batsman, has decided to retire from first-class cricket, concluding a 22-year association with Western Australia and playing 38 Test matches for Australia.
  • Marsh’s Test journey began in September 2011 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele, accruing 2,265 runs, with notable scores comprising six tons and ten half-centuries.
  • At 17, Marsh entered first-class cricket in 2001. With his 40th birthday approaching in June, Marsh has represented Australia in every cricketing format, amassing over 12,000 first-class runs, highlighted by 32 centuries.
