1. Amit Shah summoned as witness in 2002 Naroda Gam riots case

  • Amit Shah was asked to appear as a witness by a special court in Gujarat in the 2002 Narda Gam riot case.
  • This was made on a request by Maya Kodnani, a former BJP minister who has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

2. CCTVs, verification of staff made mandatory in Delhi schools

  • Delhi govt made it mandatory for all schools to install CCTV cameras and complete police verification of non-teaching staff within 3 weeks.
  • This comes after the National Capital Region(NCR) witnessed cases of crime against children in schools.

3. PM Modi destroyed all work : Rahul

  • At the University of California, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said he worked behind the scenes in fighting terrorism at J&K for 9 yrs and PM Modi destroyed it all.
  • He further slammed the Centre for demonetisation.

4. Nirmala Sitharaman sits in MiG-21 fighter jet

  • On her visit to Uttarlal Air Force Station,Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman sat in the cockpit of MiG-21 fighter jet.
  • She held a meeting with Air Force Chief BS Dhanao and had an interactive session with the officers at the base.
  • She is the first Defence Minister to visit the air base in 16 yrs.

International News

1. Indian priest rescued from ISIS after 18 months in captivity

  • The priest was kidnapped by ISIS in March 2016 from Yemen.
  • He was rescued following the intervention of the Oman ForeignMinistry and Yemeni officials.

2. Chinese Army building bunkers behind disputed area

  • The soldiers of China’s People Liberation Army have reportedly built bunkers behind the Doklam plateau two weeks after the 71 day standoff ended
  • Indian and Chinese sides are currently separated by a distance of 150 meters.

3. Man causes lockdown of White House

  • The US Secret Service arrested a man for throwing a sign and a notebook over the fence of the White House causing a temporary lockdown.
  • President Donald Trump was attending a ceremony commemorating the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks at the Pentagon during the incident.

4. UN unanimously passes fresh sanctions on N Korea

  • The UN Security Council adopted a US-drafted resolution to impose new sanctions on North Korea following the country’s 6th nuclear test.
  • The resolution bans North Korea’s textile exports and imposes a cap on its oil imports.

Business News

1. Direct tax revenue grows 17.5% to Rs.2.24 lakh cr in Apr-Aug

  • This is 22.9% of the total budget estimates of direct taxes which comprise personal and corporate income tax for the current financial year.
  • The govt had set a full-year growth target of 15.7% for direct tax receipts at Rs.9.8 lakh crore.

2. Facebook, Amazon among top 10 fastest growing firms

  • They have been listed in the top 10 by Fortune in its ‘100 Fastest-Growing Companies’.
  • Natural Health Trends has maintained its first rank since last year with a total revenue accounting to Rs.1,748 crore.

3. Airtel creating smokescreen to hide ill-gotten profits : Jio

  • Earlier, Jio said India’s three telcos generated up to Rs.1.04 lakh crore in revenue in the last five years in excess IUC.
  • In reply, Airtel claimed it incurred a loss of Rs.6,800 crore.

Sports News
1.Trinbago Knight Riders win their 2nd CPL title

  • They won their 2nd Caribbean Premier League title defeating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 3 wickets in the final.
  • Trinbago Knight Riders were table toppers in the group stage winning 8 out of their 10 matches.

2. Priyanka Panwar banned for 8 yrs

  • India’s Priyanka Panwar, 4*400 gold medalist at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games was banned by the National Anti-Doping Agency.
  • She tested positive for a banned stimulant during a national inter-state athletics competition last year.
