  • Nikos Christodoulides, the former Cypriot Foreign Minister, has ascended to the position of President of Cyprus after outpacing rival Andreas Mavroyiannis.
  • He amassed a substantial 52% of the overall votes, while Mavroyiannis followed with 48%.
  • Previously affiliated with the DISY party, Christodoulides chose to run independently in the wake of his expulsion from the group.
  • His political trajectory featured notable roles, including serving as a spokesperson in 2014 and subsequently as the foreign minister in 2018.
  • Nicosia stands as Cyprus’s capital, and the nation transacts with the Euro as its official currency.

2. Ramesh Bais is Maharashtra’s Newly Appointed Governor

  • India’s President, Droupadi Murmu, has formally instituted Ramesh Bais as the governor of Maharashtra, succeeding Bhagat Singh Koshyari who resigned.

3. Passing of Iconic American Composer Burt Bacharach

  • Acclaimed American songwriter, composer, and pianist, Burt Bacharach, departed at 94 in Los Angeles, California.
  • A distinguished career saw him honored with several awards, encapsulating eight Grammys, three Oscars, two Golden Globes, and a tribute award.
  • Over the decades spanning the 1950s to the 1980s, Bacharach masterfully composed over 500 songs. These include unforgettable tracks such as ‘I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,’ ‘I Say a Little Prayer,’ ‘Walk on By,’ and ‘Alfie.’


4. Indian Navy Introduces ACTCM Barge

  • The Indian Navy heralded the inauguration of the Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, Yard 125 (LSAM 15), under the watchful eyes of Captain Prashant Saxena AWPS (Mbi).
  • The launch event was stationed at M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd in Thane.
  • Constructed integrating systems from indigenous manufacturers, the barge is projected to serve for approximately thirty years.
  • This acquisition aspires to bolster the Navy’s operational capabilities by streamlining the processes of transportation and boarding.

  • The DGCA has divulged that India has markedly ascended in the ICAO’s aviation safety oversight ratings, climbing from 112th to the 55th position.
  • The ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission, an integral segment of the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) Continuous Monitoring Approach, was conducted in India during November 2022.
  • The USOAP centers its attention on eight crucial facets of a safety oversight infrastructure and assesses them based on distinct protocol queries.
