1. Maharashtra to completely ban plastic bags from next year.

  • The Maharashtra government is planning to completely ban plastic bags from Gudi-Padwa next year. Gudi-Padwa is the annual festival marked as the starting of new year according to Hindu calender.
  • Government has also proposed plans to provide aid to women self help groups for making cloth bags.

2. Sachin Tendulkar launches mission to develop Mumbai ward.

  • Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar launched ‘Mission-24’ to develop Mumbai’s M-East ward, which has one of the highest slum population in the city.
  • The project aims at improving the quality of life by providing schools and improving sanitation in the ward, which ranks the lowest in Human Development Index among all other wards.

3. Home Ministry clears granting citizenship to Chakma-Hajong refugees.

  • The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday cleared the citizenship for over one lakh Chakma-Hajongs, Buddhists, and Hindus, who fled to India in the 1960s to escape religious persecution in Chittagong Hill area of Bangladesh.
  • The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, MoS Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu were also present in the meeting.

International News

1.Shinzo Abe in Ahmadabad for India-Japan annual summit.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi received his Japanenese counterpart Shinzo Abe at Ahmadabad , Gujarat.
  • They will also attend India’s first high speed Bullet Train project between Ahmadabad and Mumbai.

2. Halima Yacob becomes 1st female President of Singapore.

  • Halimah Yacob was sworn in as the 8th President of Singapore.
  • She became the country’s first female President and the first in five decades to come from the Malay ethnicity.

3. Dawood Ibrahim’s assets seized by UK government.

  • The UK Government has seized property worth 42,000crore belonging to India’s most wanted gangster and world’s second richest criminal ever Dawood Inrahim.
  • This comes after the UK named Dawood as the only Indian national on a list of financial sanctions.

Business News

1. RBI to introduce Rs.100 coin to mark M G Ramchandran’s Birth Centenary.

  • Reserve Bank of India will introduce 100 rupees coin to mark the Birth Centenary of AIADMK founder Late. Dr. M G Ramchandran.
  • The portrait of Dr. M g Ramchandran will be in the center of the coin and the standard weight of coin will be 35grams.

2. Infosys completes acquisition of Brilliant Basics.

  • Infosys announced that it has completed the acquisition of London Based product design and customer experience innovator Brilliant Basics.
  • Through this acquisition, Infosys will expand its worldwide network of digital studios focused on fulfilling the needs of global clients for end-to-end digital transformation solutions

3. PPB partners NPCI to launch Rupay-powred digital debit card.

  • Paytm Payments Bank(PPB) has partnered with the National Payment Corporation of India to launch Rupay-powred digital debit card.
  • Interestingly, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma owns 51% stakes in PPB while 49% of the stakes are owned by One97 communication.

Sports News
1. Pakistan defeat World XI.

  • Pakistan defeated World XI by 20 runs in the first International match of the independence Cup in Lahore.
  • Notably, T20 I series is only the second series to be hosted by Pakistan Cricket Board since the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009.

2.WWE to host live events in India in December.

  • WWE is plaaning to host two RAW-based events in India in December this year.
  • The last time WWE hosted events in India was in January 2016 when it hosted live across Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
