  • India’s Education Technology Startup ‘Dost Education’ has won a $25000 ‘The Next Billion Edtech Prize 2019’.
  • The Next Billion Edtech Prize 2019 is given by UK-based Varkey Foundation.
  • Dost Education empowers parents in India to get their child ready for kindergarten. It is a non-profit organization supported by Y Combinator and UC Berkeley.
  • Dost Education is innovating to get every child school ready in India.

International News

1. Omar al-Bashir Former President of Sudan

  • Sudanese Army has ousted and arrested President Omar al-Bashir.
  • The Sudanese Army has set up a transitional military council to rule the country for 2 years following which elections would be held.
  • Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir is a Sudanese politician who served as the seventh President of Sudan from 1989 to 2019 and was the head of the National Congress Party.

  • The US Senate has confirmed David Bernhardt as Secretary of the Interior Department.

3. Tata Teleservices with Airtel

  • Department of Telecom has approved the merger of Tata Teleservices with Airtel.
  • Airtel is needed to furnish bank guarantees of about RS 9000 crore to cover spectrum charges.
  • Tata Teleservices Limited is an Indian broadband and telecommunications service provider based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is a subsidiary of the Tata Group, an Indian conglomerate.
  • Bharti Airtel Limited also known as Airtel is an Indian global telecommunications services company based in Delhi, India. It operates in 20 countries across South Asia and Africa.

4. New MD and CEO of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank

  • Nitin Chugh is likely to succeed Samit Ghosh as the MD and CEO of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank.
  • Samit Ghosh will retire in November 2019.

1. 2019 ITF Turkey 17A, Women Singles

  • Indian tennis player Ankita Raina is in the final of 2019 ITF Turkey Women Singles Event.
  • Ankita Ravinderkrishan Raina is an Indian tennis player and the current Indian No. 1 in women’s singles. Raina has won 1 WTA Challenger along with 8 singles and 14 doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit.

2. 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships

  • The 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships will be held in Yekaterinburg, Russia from September 7 to September 21, 2019.
  • The AIBA World Boxing Championships and the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships are biennial amateur boxing competitions organised by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), which is the sport governing body.
  • India’s Mary Kom is the most successful boxer in women’s boxing having won 6 golds and a silver (From 2001 to 2018).
  • The championships was first held in 1974 Havana, Cuba as a men’s only event and the first women’s championships was held over 25 years later in 2001.

3. Sir Edmund Hillary Fellowship for 2019

  • Athlete Deepa Malik has been named as the recipient of the New Zealand Prime Minister’s Sir Edmund Hillary Fellowship for 2019.
  • Deepa Malik is an Indian athlete. She is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Paralympic Games and won a Silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in the shot put.
  • She has also won gold in F-53/54 Javelin event at the para athletic grand Prix held in Dubai in 2018.
  • Sir Edmund Hillary was a New Zealand mountaineer, explorer, and philanthropist.
  • On 29 May 1953, Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest.
