1. Asia Environmental Enforcement Award

  • IFS officer Ramesh Pandey has been selected for Asia Environmental Enforcement Award by the United Nations Environment Programme.
  • He was awarded for his excellent work in combating trans-boundary environmental crime.
  • The Indian Forest Service is one of the three All India Services of the Government of India. The other two All India Services being the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service. It was constituted in the year 1966 under the All India Services Act, 1951, by the Government of India.

1. Nobel Prize for Economics 2019

  • The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2019 SverigesRiksbank Prize in Economic to Indian American economist Abhijit Banerjee, his wife Esther Duflo and American development economist Michael Kremer.
  • The trio won the award for their experimental approach to alleviating Global Poverty.

2. Alexei Leonov passes away

  • Alexei Arkhipovich Leonov was a Soviet Russian cosmonaut, Air Force major general, writer, and artist.
  • On 18 March 1965, he became the first human to conduct a spacewalk, exiting the capsule during the Voskhod 2 mission for 12 minutes and 9 seconds.

3. International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction

  • The International Day for Disaster Reduction on 13th October an international day encourages every citizen and government to take part in building more disaster-resilient communities and nations.

  • India became a member of G20 Global Smart Cities Alliance on Technology Governance

  • 20 Global Smart Cities Alliance on Technology Governance was established in June 2019, in conjunction with the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan.

1. Bastian Schweinsteiger retires

  • German Footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger has announced his retirement.

3. World Youth Chess Championship 2019

  • World Youth Chess Championship 2019 was held in Mumbai by International Chess Federation.
