1. Vice President on three-nation visit

  • VP M. Venkaiah Naidu has embarked on a three-nation visit to Serbia, Malta and Romania.
  • There will be an interaction with the heads of states of all the three countries during the course of the visit.

2. Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar and National Safety Awards-2016

  • Labour and Employment Ministry will give away Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar and National Safety Awards for the performance year 2016 at New Delhi on September 17.
  • 28 Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar and 128 National Safety Awards are to be awarded
  • Vishwakarma day is on September 17th.

3. No NOTA option in Rajya Sabha, Legislative Council polls

  • Election Commission of India has withdrew the provision of NOTA option in Rajya Sabha and the state’s Legislative Council polls.
  • The NOTA option will be available in Lok Sabha and state’s assembly election.

4. India’s First Dog Park

  • India’s first dog park will be inaugurated in Hyderabad.
  • The park is equipped with dog training and playing equipment, off leash areas for exercise, splash pool, sprinkler fountain and a clinic.

International News

1. Climate Summit 2019

  • Climate Summit will be held at New York in September 2019 by United Nations.
  • The UN Secretary General also announced the appointment of Luis Alfonso de Alba, a former Mexican diplomat, as his Special Envoy to lead the preparations of the summit.

2. Outstanding Investigator Award

  • Arul Chinnaiyan has been awarded the ‘Outstanding Investigator Award’ by US National Cancer Institute.
  • He is an Indian-American researcher who has identified cancer biomarkers to enhance diagnosis and develop new targeted therapies.

3. ASEAN World Economic Forum

  • ASEAN World Economic Forum has started in Hanoi, Vietnam.
  • Theme:- ‘ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution’

4. ICESat-2 – A Satellite by NASA

  • NASA will be launching the Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2).
  • This will measure the melting of ice by providing the observations of how the Earth’s ice sheets, glaciers and sea ice are changing.

1. LIC with CDSL

  • CDSL (Central Depository Services) and LIC have signed an agreement to provide the group insurance coverage to all eligible Demat Account holders.
  • Central Depository Services Ltd, is the second Indian central securities depository based in Mumbai. Its main function is the holding securities either in certificated or uncertificated form, to enable book entry transfer of securities.

2. New Appointments in Insurance Company

  • United India Insurance Company’s New Chairman and MD is Girish Radhakrishnan.
  • National Insurance Company Limited’s New Chairman and MD is Tajinder Mukherjee.

3. IBM with IIT Bombay

  • IBM and IIT Bombay will join the AI Horizons Network to accelerate AI research in India.
  • International Business Machines Corporation is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Armonk, New York, United States, with operations in over 170 countries.

4. World’s largest mobile experience centre: Samsung

  • Samsung has unlatched world’s largest mobile experience centre at Bengaluru(Opera House).
  • Samsung is a South Korean multinational conglomerate headquartered in Samsung Town, Seoul. It is the largest South Korean chaebol. Samsung was founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company.

Sports News

1. World Masters Athletics Championships

  • Man Kaur(Chandigarh) won Gold Medal in 200m race (100-104 age group category),Spain.
  • He completed the race in 3 minutes and 14.65 seconds

2. 2018 Asia Cup

  • It is a One-Day International cricket tournament scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates from 15 to 28 September 2018.
  • It will be the 14th edition of the Asia Cup and the third time the tournament will be played in the United Arab Emirates.

3. Mitchell Johnson’s New Motorsport Debut

  • Mitchell Johnson will make his debut in Formula 1000 series event.
  • He is an Australian former international cricketer, who played all forms of the game until his retirement from international cricket in 2015. He is a left-arm fast bowler and left-handed batsman. He made his Test debut for Australia in November 2007.
