National News

1. ‘Voter Park’

‘Voter Park’ which is India’s only and first-of-its-kind was inaugurated in Gurugram.
Sunil Arora assumed charge as 23rd Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India. He succeeded OP Rawat who retired on 1 December 2018.
The President has the power to select Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners. They have tenure of six years, or up to the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. They have the same status and receive pay and perks as available to Judges of the Supreme Court of India

2. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Nobel Award

Sudhanshu Kumar (founder of Digital Sukoon) has been honored with the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Nobel Award by International Human Rights Council.
The Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental body of the United Nations, through which States discuss human rights conditions in the UN Member States.
The Human Rights Council was established in 2006 by Resolution 60/251 as a subsidiary body to the UN General Assembly.

3. Sub-Sonic Cruise Missile ‘Nirbhay’

India has successfully test-fired first indigenously developed sub-sonic cruise missile ‘Nirbhay’.
All-weather missile with a 1000-kilometre strike range.
It is developed by DRDO.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation is an agency of the Government of India, charged with the military’s research and development, headquartered in New Delhi, India.

International News

1. World Creativity and Innovation Day

World Creativity and Innovation Day will be observed on 21 April.
It aims to provide us an excuse to try to solve old problems in new ways.
The first World Creativity and Innovation Day as announced by the United Nations, was celebrated on April 21, 2018.

2. 2019 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano Press Freedom Prize

The 2019 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano Press Freedom Prize has been awarded to Wa Lone (Reuters Reporter) and KyawSoeOo (Reuters Reporter).
Created in 1997, the annual UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize honours a person, organization or institution that has made an outstanding contribution to the defence and, or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, and especially when this has been achieved in the face of danger.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations based in Paris.

3. Freedom of the City of London Award

Chairman and Managing Director of ‘General Insurance Corporation of India’ Alice G. Vaidyan has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London to promote insurance ties between India and the UK.
GIC of India is a state owned enterprise in India. It was the sole reinsurance company in the Indian insurance market until the insurance market was open to foreign reinsurance players by late 2016 including companies from Germany, Switzerland and France. GIC Re has its registered office and headquarters in Mumbai.

4. New Prime Minister of Palestine

President Mahmoud Abbas has appointed Mohammed Ishtayeh as the new Prime Minister of Palestine.
Palestine, officially the State of Palestine, is a de jure sovereign state in Western Asia claiming the West Bank and Gaza Strip with Jerusalem as the designated capital, although its administrative center is currently located in Ramallah.

Hong Kong’s equity market “Hang Seng Index” has overtaken Japan to be the world’s third largest in value.

2. Bharti Airtel with FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO)

Bharti Airtel in collaboration with FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) has launched ‘My Circle’ App.
FLO was established in 1983, as a division of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and industry (FICCI) which is the apex body of industry and commerce in India.
Bharti Airtel Limited also known as Airtel is an Indian global telecommunications services company based in Delhi, India.
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry is an association of business organisations in India. Established in 1927, on the advice of Mahatma Gandhi by GD Birla and Purushottam Das Thakurdas, it is the largest, oldest and the apex business organisation in India.

3. Tata Trusts with Microsoft India

Tata Trusts and Microsoft India have signed an MoU for collaborating handloom clusters in eastern and north-eastern parts of India.
Tata Trusts are amongst India’s oldest, non-sectarian philanthropic organisations. The Trusts own two-third of the stock holding of Tata Sons, the apex company of the Tata group of companies.

1. Marylebone Cricket Club

MCC (the Marylebone Cricket Club) has awarded the honour of ‘Honorary Life Members’ to Inzamam-ul-Haq (Pakistan) and Mark Boucher (South Africa).
Marylebone Cricket Club is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord’s cricket ground, which it owns, in St John’s Wood, London, England. The club was formerly the governing body of cricket in England and Wales and, as the sport’s legislator, held considerable global influence.

2. Tommy Smith passes away

Former Liverpool captain Tommy Smith has passed away at 74.
Thomas Smith MBE was an English footballer, who played as a defender at Liverpool for 16 years from 1962 to 1978. Known for his uncompromising defensive style.
Liverpool Football Club is a professional football club in Liverpool, England, that competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

3. Roland-Garros eSeries

Rohit Thakur is the winner of second edition of India leg of the Roland-Garros eSeries.
Roland-Garros eSeries is an e-sport competition played on the Tennis World Tour video game.
The French Open, also called Roland-Garros, is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks between late May and early June at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France. The venue is named after the French aviator Roland Garros.
