1. National Organic Food Festival

  • New Delhi will host the National Organic Food Festival for women entrepreneurs.

3. Institutes to be named after Sushma Swaraj

  • The Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra and the Foreign Service Institute will be named after Sushma Swaraj.
  • SushmaSwaraj was an Indian politician and a Supreme Court lawyer. A senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party, Swaraj served as the Minister of External Affairs of India in the first Narendra Modi government. She was the second woman to hold the office, after Indira Gandhi.

1. Darwin Day

  • Darwin Day is a celebration to commemorate the birthday of Charles Darwin on 12 February 1809.
  • The day is used to highlight Darwin’s contributions to science and to promote science in general.
  • Darwinism is a theory of biological evolution developed by the English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–1882) and others, stating that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual’s ability to compete, survive, and reproduce.

  • The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation is an international organisation of seven nations of South Asia and South East Asia, housing 1.5 billion people and having a combined gross domestic product of $3.5 trillion.

1. New ICAI President

  • Atul Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the new President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI).
  • ICAI is the national professional accounting body of India. It was established on 1 July 1949 as a statutory body under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 enacted by the Parliament (acting as the provisional Parliament of India) to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India.

2. Panel on Defence and Internal security

  • The 15th Finance Commission has constituted panel on Defence and Internal security, headed by the Chairman of the Fifteenth Finance Commission N K Singh.
  • Expenditure secretary T V Somanathan, defence secretary Ajay Kumar, finance commission Member AN Jha and home affairs secretary Ajay Bhalla as its members.

3. General Insurance Corporation of India with Central Bank of the Russian Federation

  • General Insurance Corporation of India has received the license from Central Bank of the Russian Federation to commence reinsurance business in the country.
  • GIC of India is a state owned enterprise in India. It was the sole reinsurance company in the Indian insurance market until the insurance market was open to foreign reinsurance players by late 2016 including companies from Germany, Switzerland and France. GIC Re has its registered office and headquarters in Mumbai.
