1. 77th Independence Day Celebrations in India
- On August 15, 2023, India marked its 77th year of independence.
- From the Red Fort in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the country and raised the national flag.
- The central theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Always Prioritize the Nation’ as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ festivities.
- The ceremony was attended by approximately 1,800 distinguished guests from diverse societal sectors.
- A floral design representing the G20 logo was exhibited.

2. Demise of Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of Sulabh

li>Bindeshwar Pathak, the visionary behind Sulabh International, succumbed to heart failure.
- Recognized for initiating community toilet projects, he established Sulabh International to champion human rights, environmental sanitation, and waste management.
- In acknowledgment of his efforts in liberating manual scavengers and introducing environmentally friendly pour-flush toilet systems, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 1991.

3. Farm Loan Waiver Announced by Telangana
- In August 2023, the Telangana administration revealed a farm loan forgiveness plan covering amounts up to 99,999.
- The promised waiver will be processed within the following 45 days.
- An allocation exceeding 5,800 crore rupees has been made, set to assist over 900,000 farmers.
- By implementing this decision, loans amounting to 7,753.43 crore rupees of over 1.66 million farmers are slated for clearance, with direct transfers to the farmers’ loan accounts.
4. Arunachal Pradesh Allocates 12 Hydropower Initiatives to Central PSUs
- MoAs were inked in August 2023 between the Arunachal Pradesh government and three Central Public Sector Enterprises, transferring 12 previously halted hydropower ventures.
- The involved PSUs are National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVN), and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited.
- These 12 ventures, once run by private entities, will have a combined operational capability of 11,523 MW.
- The state’s Chief Minister is Pema Khandu.
5. Free Food Scheme Introduced by CM Ashok Gehlot
- Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, on Independence Day, initiated the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Annapurna Food Packet Scheme.
- Families listed under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) are to receive monthly Annapurna food packages from the fair price shops at no cost.
- Each of these packets will comprise gram pulses, sugar, iodized salt, soybean refined edible oil, and specified quantities of chili and coriander powders.
6. Independence Day 2023: Fire Service Medal Recipients
- On Independence Day 2023, 53 officials were honored with Fire Service Medals.
- 8 individuals received the President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service.
- The Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service was presented to 41.
- 3 received the President’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry.
- Lastly, one official was conferred the Personnel and Fire Service Medal for Gallantry in recognition of their courageous acts.
7. Parshottam Rupala Introduces ‘AHELP’ and Infertility Camp
- Parshottam Rupala, the Union Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairying, launched the ‘AHELP’ initiative and an Infertility Camp in Gujarat.
- These programs are central to the Pashudhan Jagrati Abhiyaan for Comprehensive Development.
- The main goals are women’s empowerment, a boost in livestock productivity, and fostering the region’s socioeconomic growth.
