1. India Welcomes Its Premier Airbus C295 Aircraft

  • In a groundbreaking development in aviation, India welcomed its first C295 aircraft, a collaboration between Airbus and Tata Group, marking an Indian private entity’s entry into aircraft manufacturing. This aircraft is set to replace the IAF’s ageing Avro fleet. The C295 boasts features like carrying up to nine tonnes or 71 personnel, cruising at 480 km/h, and a rear ramp for loading an ability not seen in the Avro. Its versatility is evident from its capability to fly up to 30,000 feet and handle various airstrips.

2. Government Greenlights E-Courts Phase III for a 4-Year Span

  • The Indian government has approved the third phase of the e-Courts project with a generous budget of Rs 7,210 crore, marking a significant step towards modernizing India’s judiciary. This phase focuses on establishing a digital, paperless court system by digitizing all court records. The initiative, which began in 2007, falls under the National e-Governance Plan and is overseen by the Supreme Court, with funding from the Department of Justice.

3. Birth Certificate: Key Document for Aadhaar, Driving License, and Employment from the Following Month

  • The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has made significant changes regarding birth certificate usage for essential services, effective from October 1, 2023.   • In an innovative move, the Karnataka government has rolled out an insurance package worth Rs 4 lakh for gig workers, encompassing life and accidental insurance. The ‘Karnataka State Gig Workers Insurance Scheme’ seeks to benefit around 2.3 lakh gig workers in the state. Additionally, the scheme covers hospital expenses up to Rs 1 lakh resulting from accidents, whether they occur during work or off-duty. The Karnataka State Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Board will oversee its immediate implementation.

6. Fitch Retains India’s Growth Prediction at 6.3% for FY24, Highlights Inflation Concerns

  • Fitch Ratings has maintained its economic growth forecast for India at 6.3% for FY24, even amidst certain economic challenges. The Indian economy displayed a robust 7.8% growth in the April-June quarter, primarily driven by strong demand and a resurgent service sector. Fitch also projects a 6.5% growth rate for FY24-25. However, the agency has raised inflation concerns, revising its year-end inflation prediction upward, particularly pointing out the potential effects of El Nino.
