1. Vijay Diwas

  • Vijay Diwas is commemorated every 16 December in India, to Indian military’s victory over Pakistan in Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 for the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan.
  • The end of the war also resulted in the unilateral and unconditional surrender of the Pakistan Army and subsequent secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh.

2. Mumbai-Nagpur corridor

  • Maharashtra Government has decided to name Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Expressway (NMSCE) after the Shiv Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray.
  • Bal Keshav Thackeray was an Indian politician who founded the Shiv Sena, a right-wing pro-Marathi and Hindu nationalist party active mainly in the state of Maharashtra.

3. Namaste Orchha festival

  • Madhya Pradesh Government will host Namaste Orchha festival in March 2020.
  • Aim: To mark the cultural landscape of Madhya Pradesh.

4. Tara Sinha passes away

  • Tara Sinha, is a veteran in the field of Advertising, Public Relations, External Affairs, Issues Management and Corporate Communications with over 50 years.
  • She was also the first woman to set up a national advertising agency, Tara Sinha Associates (TSA), in the 1980s.
  • She has been the Chairperson of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. She also served as the Member, Advisory Council IIT, Delhi and Chairperson, Advertising Sub-Committee, ASSOCHAM.

1. Crystal Award 2020

  • Deepika Padukone won the 26th World Economic Forum Annual Crystal Award for spreading awareness about the importance of mental health.
  • Apart from Deepika Padukone, artist Theaster Gates and choreographer Jin Xing have also been felicitated with the Annual Crystal Award.

2. Algeria’s New President

  • Abde lmadjid Tebboune has been appointed as the New President of Algeria.

3. India’s top crude oil supplier

  • USA replaces Kuwait as India’s 6th biggest oil supplier
  • Iraq continues to be India’s top crude oil supplier, followed by UAE and Nigeria.

1. New Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation

  • Shrikant Madhav Vaidya has been appointed as the next Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
  • Indian Oil Corporation Limited, commonly known as Indian Oil is an Indian state government owned oil and gas company headquartered in New Delhi.

2. TL Alamelu Committiee

  • IRDAI has inducted a ten-member working group to suggest segment-wise ways and means to improve loss prevention and loss minimisation in the general insurance industry.
  • IRDAI Member (Non-Life) T. L. Alamelu will chair the group.
  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India is an autonomous, statutory body tasked with regulating and promoting the insurance and re-insurance industries in India.

3. New Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry

  • Ravi Mittal took charge as the new Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

4. SBI with KfW German Development Bank

  • SBI has signed a loan agreement with KfW German development bank for 277 million USD for establishing an energy-efficient housing programme in India.

1. Book ‘Mind Master: Winning Lessons from a Champion’s Life’

  • Viswanathan Anand has penned a book titled “Mind Master: Winning Lessons from a Champion’s Life”.
  • This book is co-authored by sports journalist Susan Ninan.
  • Viswanathan “Vishy” Anand is an Indian chess grandmaster and a former World Chess Champion. He became the first grandmaster from India in 1988. Anand held the FIDE World Chess Championship from 2000 to 2002, thus becoming the first Asian to do so.
