1. Miss USA Crowned at the 71st Miss Universe Pageant

  • R’Bonney Gabriel, representing the United States, won the “Miss USA” title at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans. She will represent the U.S. at the next Miss Universe competition.
  • She is the first Filipina American to clinch the Miss USA title. Apart from being a beauty queen, Gabriel is a model, fashion designer, and sewing trainer who places humanitarian issues at the forefront of her work.
  • Both Andrena Martínez of the Dominican Republic and Amanda Dudamel of Venezuela secured the second position.

2. The Critics’ Choice Awards 2023

  • TV: Best Actor went to Bob Odenkirk for “Better Call Saul” and Best Actress to Zendaya for “Euphoria”.
  • Film: Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for “The Whale” while Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for “Tár”. “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once” directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert bagged the award for Best Film.
  • India’s “RRR”, directed by SS Rajamouli, clinched the Critics’ Choice Awards 2023 for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Song for “Naatu Naatu”.

    • The Digital Networking and Publishing Association (DNPA) announced the winners of its 8th annual Digital Impact Awards 2023.
    • Awards were granted in various categories such as:

4. Passing of Mukarram Jah, Ninth Nizam of Hyderabad

  • Mukarram Jah Bahadur, the ninth official Nizam of Hyderabad, passed away at 89 and was laid to rest in Istanbul, Turkey.
  • Born on October 6, 1933, in France to Prince Azam Jah and Princess Durru Shehvar, he was the grandson of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur. He assumed the title of Asaf Jah the Eighth on April 6, 1967.

6. Doppler Weather Radar System Integration by 2023

  • On the 148th Foundation Day of the Indian Meteorological Department, India’s Minister of Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, declared that India will be completely integrated into a Doppler Weather Radar system by 2023.
  • This integration will enhance meteorological observation capabilities and particularly benefit farmers, who significantly contribute to the national economy.
  • Proactive initiatives by IMD will see the radar network count rise from 15 in 2013 to 37 by 2023.
