1. India Introduces UPAg: A New Comprehensive Agricultural Data Portal

  • To address governance issues in India’s agricultural sector, the government has launched UPAg (Unified Portal for Agricultural Statistics). This platform aims to provide stakeholders with timely, accurate, and consistent data to encourage more effective agricultural policies.
  • By consolidating data from various sources, such as prices, production, yield, area, and trade, UPAg offers a comprehensive overview of agricultural goods, ensuring that information is easily accessible.

2. ‘Swachhata Pakhwada-2023’ Initiated by Ministry of Railways

  • The Ministry of Railways, committed to cleanliness, has begun the Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 campaign starting from 15th September 2023.
  • Typically observed from 116th to 30th September, the Ministry has extended Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 until 2nd October in alignment with Mahatma Gandhi’s Jayanti. South Western Railway led the awards last year, followed by Western and North Eastern Railways.

3. 108-Feet Adi Shankaracharya Statue to be Unveiled by Shivraj Singh Chouhan

  • Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is set to inaugurate a grand 108-foot statue of renowned philosopher Adi Shankaracharya in Omkareshwar on September 18, titled “Eaktmta Ki Pratima” (Statue of Oneness).
  • This impressive statue honors Adi Shankaracharya, who left Omkareshwar at age 12 and traveled throughout India promoting the Advaita Vedanta philosophy.

4. Trade Deficit for India Decreases in September

  • In September 2023, India’s merchandise exports dropped by 6.86% to $34.48 billion year-on-year. Sectors like Non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery saw this decline.
  • Both imports and exports decreased, but the trade deficit for September 2023 shrank to $24.16 billion, marking a 2.8% improvement from the previous year. Total exports and imports for the month were $60.87 billion and $72.50 billion, respectively, resulting in a trade deficit of $11.63 billion.

  • India excelled in four major areas, moving up from its fourth position last year, reflecting the nation’s growing acceptance of cryptocurrency. Following India in the rankings are Nigeria, Vietnam, the United States, and Ukraine.
