TIME 100 Reader Poll won by Philippine President Duterte

  • This year’s TIME magazine’s Readers’ Poll of the 100 most influential people in the world was won by Rodrigo Duterte, the President of Philippines.
  • Rodrigo Duterte who is the 16th President of Philippines maintained the lead, right from the beginning of the poll and received 5% of total ‘YES’ votes.

Opposition cries foul as Erdogan wins Turkey referendum

  • In the biggest overhaul of modern Turkish politics, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won a historic referendum on Sunday but the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chief Kemal Kilicdaroglu showed dissatisfaction about the result and challenged the outcome.
  • 51.4 percent of the vote was won by the ‘Yes’ campaign whereas 48.6 percent by the ‘No’ campaign and this victory will abolish the office of Prime Minister and replace Turkey’s Parliamentary system with an all-powerful Presidency like ruled by one man (i.e) under President.

Sagarmatha Friendship to be conducted by Nepal and China

  • Nepal and China to conduct First ever Joint military exercise named Sagarmatha Friendship from 17th April to 23rd 2017 in Kathmandu.
  • Combining terror activities and disaster management are going to be the main focus and the joint training between the two nations will training will prove to be a great platform to learn and share knowledge and experiences with each other.

Trial run of “Vistadome Coaches” flagged off by Suresh Prabhu

  • The trial run of new glass roof coaches of Vistadome between Visakhapatnam and Arakuon was flagged off by Suresh Prabhu on April 16, 2017.
  • These 4 coaches which cost Rs.4 crore include, infotainment system, wide side door for physically disable and automatic sliding compartment door and while The 2 coaches will run on the Vizag-Araku route, the other 2 will be sent to Jammu and Kashmir.

Bill to hike reservations for Muslim and STs passed by Telangana

  • The reservation for socially backward people increased from 6% to 10% and for Muslim people increased from 4% to 12% and it includes total quotas in educational institutions and government jobs.

Kempegowda festival inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi

  • President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the Kempegowda Festival which is organized by the Ndaprabhu Kempegowda foundation which works towards popularizing the legendary King Kempe Gowda and his works.

World Bank predicts that India’s Economy will grow by 7.2% in 2017-2018

  • India’s gross domestic product (GDP) will increase to 7.2% in the 2017-2018 from 6.8% in this fiscal year, this has been predicted in a report presented by World Bank which is called “Globalization Backlash”.
  • According to Globalization Backlash, India’s exports will grow by 6% in the coming year, Inflation to grow by 5.2% in 2017-2018 and 5.4% in 2018-2019 and economic growth will rise to 7.7% in 2019-2020.

8.65% interest rate on EPF approved by Finance Ministry

  • A decision to Reduce the interest rate on Provident Fund Deposits to 65% from 8.8% has been taken by the EPFO (Employees Provident fund Organization) because banks have reduced their deposit rates and RBI has cut their lending rates.
  • Accounts of 17 crore subscribers will be updated with this interest rate which was approved by :-
    i. Loyalty cum benefit would be provided to all subscribers who have contributed to the scheme for 20 years or more on retirement.
    ii. Around 17 crore subscribers’ accounts will be updated with this interest rate which was approved by EPFO apex body , Central Board Of Trustees headed by the Bandaru Dattatreya (Labour Minister).

2 units of Rattan India Project commissioned by BHEL

  • 2 units of 270 MW at Rattan India Nashik Power ltd. was commissioned by BHEL (Bharat heavy electrical ltd.) and the Power sector giant has also commissioned 8 sets for Rattan India in Maharashtra 3 sets will be at Nashik and 5 sets at Amravati.

Own portal and mobile app of RUSA launched by Mr. Prakash Javadekar

  • A portal and a mobile app of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) was launched by Union HRD Minister Mr. Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi.
