457 visas programme largely used by Indians abolished by Australia

  • A visa programme that is used by over 95,000 temporary foreign workers and majority of them are Indians has been abolished by Australia with an objective to tackle the growing unemployment in the country.
  • The abolishment of 457 Visa programme which permits business to employ foreign workers for a span of up to four years in skilled jobs where there is a shortage of Australian workers means Australian job seekers will get more opportunity to find work and prosper their business growth efficiently.

PM Narendra Modi to visit Gujarat on a two day trip

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gujarat on 16th and 17th April, 2017 during which he inaugurated many projects across the state.
  • Kiran Multi-speciality Hospital and Research Center in Surat was inaugurated by him as well as fully automated cattle feed plant of SUMUL Dairy was inaugurated by the PM in Tapi district of Gujarat.

Training program for Women Panchayat leaders launched by Centre

  • A training programme for Women Panchayat leaders to skill and administers them so that they can give special emphasis on efficient usage of funds for achieving their overall development was launched by the Centre.
  • With the help of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, The National Commission for Women (NCW) has developed training modules for empowering these elected women.

Maharashtra Govt.  announces ‘Advanced Farming – Enriched Farmer’ scheme.

  • ‘Advanced Farming – Enriched Farmer’ scheme which aims to increase farmers’ income by cutting production cost and increasing the output was announced by Maharashtra State Govt.
  • The scheme will introduce marketing techniques, Diversification of crops and will unite farmers through farm producers’ companies and making them financially stable.

SBI overtakes ONGC to become the most valued PSU stock

  • In terms of market valuation, State Bank of India (SBI) surpassed ONGC to become the most valued public sector undertaking (PSU) state-owned firm.
  • ONGC lost 1.36 per cent to Rs 180.60 while the shares of SBI rose by 2.33 per cent to Rs 296.40 as SBI surged 16 per cent while that of ONGC fell by over 4 per cent.

On its foundation day, PNB launches new products for customers

  • MD and CEO of PNB, Ms.Usha Ananthasu bramanian has launched three new products for its customers on the occasion of 123rd foundation Day.
  • The three new products which are launched by PNB are a Credit card Mobile App, a scheme for financing a grid connected Roof Solar Power Project and automated electronic toll collection to facilitate hassle-free toll payment collection.

A MoU to share information has been inked by RBI and, Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan sign a new Memorandum of Understanding for the purpose of ‘Supervisory Cooperation and Exchange of Supervisory Information’ with few countries.

New Ombudsman office for Chhattisgarh and Jammu opened by RBI

  • The Reserve Bank has started a new office for Chhattisgarh and for Jammu to look into the grievances of residents and entities.
  • The entire state of Chhattisgarh will be under the jurisdiction of Raipur office and those people who have grievances about banking services can lodge complaints at the banking ombudsman office.

To have buyback agreements, ISRO, BHEL tie-up for lithium-ion batteries

  • Indian space Research Organization (ISRO) and Bharat Heavy electrical Limited (BHEL) have signed a MoU to develop low-cost lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles and also an agreement of buyback commitment for such batteries.
  • The main objective is to provide for scale-up, joint effort in cost optimization, research and development and promote commercial production of lithium ion batteries that uses in electric motor vehicles.
