1. India witnesses record 1.04 crore domestic flyers in a month
- The number of flyers saw a year-on-year increase of over 20%, up from 86.7 lakh passengers in October 2016.
- All major airlines except Air India logged a passenger load factor above 80% which DGCA contributed to the festive season.
2. Restrictions imposed in Srinagar after militant’s killing
- All schools and colleges in the city have been closed for the day and train services have also been suspended.
- An al-Qaeda militant was killed and a policeman was injured in the shootout.
3. Bengaluru to get first six-car Metro train by December
- BEML Ltd is all set to supply the first six-car Metro to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited.
- A six-car train will have the capacity to carry up to 1,850 commuters.
International News
1. Russia vetoes Syria chemical attack probe
- Russia vetoed Japan-drafted UN resolution to renew an international inquiry into chemical weapon attacks in Syria.
- It is the 11th time Russia has vetoed UN action on Syria since the war began in 2011.
- Russia’s ally Syrian govt has been blamed for chemical attacks on its own citizens.
2. Britain appoints the first female Black Rod in 650 years
- Britain’s Queen Elizabeth approved the appointment of Sarah Clarke as the country’s first female Black Rod.
- The Black Rod is responsible for controlling access to and maintaining order within the UK’s House of Lords.
3. India creating a two-front situation for us : Pakistan
- Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Nasser Janjua said India is creating a two-front situation for Pakistan by involving itself in Afghanistan.
- He said that India and Pakistan should resolve their disputes for regional peace and stability.
Business News
1. 5G to generate $27 bn revenue potential by 2026
- This is according to Ericsson 5G Business Potential report.
- The 5G technology will create opportunities in sectors like manufacturing, energy and utilities followed by public safety and health sectors.
2. Johnson & Johnson to pay $247 mn over defective hip implants
- Six New York residents implanted with the devices said they experienced tissue death, bone erosion and other injuries.
- The jury in Dallas said devices were defective and companies failed to warn consumers about the risks.
Sports News
1. Geeta Phogat, Sakshi Malik win national golds in wrestling
- Geeta won gold in the 59kg category while Sakshi clinched top spot in 62 kg category at the National Wrestling Championship
- Vinesh and Ritu Phogat bagged gold medals in the 55kg and 50kg categories respectively.
2. 18-yr old youngest after Sachin to hit FC century vs England
- Australia’s Indian origin Jason Sangha became the 2nd youngest player behind Sachin to score a first class ton against England.
- He is also the ninth youngest Australian to make a first-class hundred and the youngest since Ricky Ponting.
