7. India’s Path to Developed Status Requires 7.6% Annual GDP Growth by 2047: Central Bank’s Statement

  • The Reserve Bank of India’s latest bulletin outlines the growth milestones that India needs to achieve in the next 25 years to become a developed country with a robust per capita income.
  • With the current estimate standing at $2,500, India’s per capita income should reach or surpass $21,664 by 2047, in line with World Bank standards, to attain the status of a high-income country.
  • To achieve this target, India must maintain a compounded annual growth rate of 7.6% in its real GDP from 2023-24 to 2047-48.

8. World Chess Day Celebrated on 20 July 2023

  • July 20 is annually observed as World Chess Day, commemorating the foundation of Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) or the World Chess Federation in 1924.
  • Also known as International Chess Day, it is celebrated by over 600 million regular enthusiasts worldwide. The age-old game of Chess, believed to be about 1,500 years old, is thought to have originated in India and was called ‘Chaturanga’.

9. Celebrating International Moon Day 2023

  • Internationally recognized, Moon Day is an annual event celebrating Earth’s only natural satellite.
  • Every year, this day is marked on July 20, in remembrance of the iconic moment when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon in 1969.
  • This lunar landing is one of humanity’s proudest achievements, making International Moon Day a day of celebration for the Apollo 11 mission and an educational day about lunar science and astronomy.


10. Finance Ministry Appoints Pramod Rao to IFSCA Board

  • The Finance Department nominated Pramod Rao, SEBI’s Executive Director, as a board member of the International Financial Services Centre Authority (IFSCA).
  • Pramod Rao replaces Sujit Prasad, another Executive Director at SEBI, who was appointed as an IFSCA board member (representing SEBI) in July 2020.

11. RBI and UAE’s Central Bank Sign Twin MoUs for Trade in Domestic Currencies

  • The objective of these MoUs is to promote the use of domestic currencies in international transactions and to merge their respective payment systems, integrating India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with UAE’s Instant Payment Platform (IPP).
