1. Northeast floods cause loss of Rs.150 crore to railways in 7 days

  • Indian Railways have suffered a revenue loss of nearly Rs.150 crore after 800 trains were diverted and cancelled due to floods in north Bihar, West Bengal and other northeastern states.
  • Entry to Northeast Frontier Railway is completely stopped.

2. 6 coaches of Utkal Express derail in Uttar Pradesh

  • Six coaches of the Puri-Haridwar-Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Muzaffarnagar’s Khatauli.
  • 20 people have been injured.

3. Camel sacrifice banned in Lucknow

  • The Lucknow district administration banned the sacrifice of camels on the occasion of Bakrid.
  • The district magistrate said that the police and intelligence unit personnel will keep a tab on the sale and purchase of camel.

4. Kiran Bedi takes tour at night in Puducherry

  • Puducherry Lieutenant Governor and retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi went on a scooter ride around the city at night to check the level of safety for women.

1. N Korea says the threat is only to U.S.

  • North Korea has claimed that its nuclear weapons will pose a threat to only the US and not the rest of the world.
  • The country won’t initiate a nuclear attack against any nation in the world unless it participates in anti-North Korea military actions.

2. China launches 1st digital court for internet disputes

  • China launched its first digital cyber-court to settle internet related disputes.
  • A lawsuit can be filed in five minutes, saving time and reducing costs.

3. Death toll in Sierra Leone floods crosses 400

  • According to Red Cross, death toll in Sierra Leone has crossed 400 with 600 others still missing.
  • The disaster occurred after heavy rains triggered mudslides that led to people being washed away and buildings getting submerged.

4.18 litres of liquid meth found

  • A Vietnamese couple has been charged for trying to smuggle 18 litres of liquid meth into Australia in bottles labelled as sparkling water.
  • The baggage was found to contain 36 bottles.

1. Solar eclipse could cost US employers over Rs.4,400 crore

  • The solar eclipse occurring on August 21st in the middle of the workday may cost US employers in lost productivity.
  • Employees will need about 20 mins to find a viewing spot and watch the eclipse.

  • SBI has realised the penalty from 3.68 crore accounts for not maintaining monthly average balance in the first quarter.
  • An RTI official has appealed to SBI to review its policy in the interest of poor account holders.
