1. International Conference on Teacher Education

  • HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has inaugurated International Conference on Teacher Education in New Delhi.
  • Title: ‘Journey of Teacher Education: Local to Global’.
  • The Conference was organized by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE).
  • National Council for Teacher Education is a statutory body of Indian government set up under the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993 in 1995 is to formally oversee standards, procedures and processes in the Indian education system.

2. 2 new districts in Tamilnadu

  • Vellore district of Tamilnadu will be trifurcated into Vellore, Tirupattur and Ranipet.

3. Tamil Yeoman

  • Tamil Nadu state has officially declared Tamil Yeoman as the state butterfly.
  • Tamilnadu has become 5th Indian state after Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Kerala to declare its state butterfly.
  • Maharashtra was the first state to officially declare Blue Mormon as its state butterfly in 2015.

4. Chilika and Ansupa Lakes

  • Odisha Wetland Authority has drafted an integrated management plan Chilika and Ansupa Lakes.
  • Chilika lake is India’s largest brackish water Lake, spread over the Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts of Odisha state .
  • Ansupa is the Odisha’s largest freshwater lake.

1. World Photography Day

  • August 19 is observed as World Photography Day.
  • It aims to inspire photographers across the planet to share a single photo with a simple purpose: to share their world with the world.

2. World Humanitarian Day

  • World Humanitarian Day is observed every year on 19 August.
  • World Humanitarian Day is an international day dedicated to recognize humanitarian personnel and those who have lost their lives working for humanitarian causes.

3. Jodhpur-Munabao Thar Link Express

  • India has suspended Jodhpur-Munabao Thar Link Express amid ongoing tension with Pakistan over the Kashmir issue.
  • Thar Express operated weekly by Indian Railway between Jodhpur and Munabao. Passengers from Munabao then clear customs and are transported to across the border to Zero Point station where the Thar Express takes passengers to Karachi, Pakistan.
