Cambrian Patrol 2023: Indian Army Triumphs with Gold

  • During the Cambrian Patrol Exercise 2023 held in the UK, the Indian Army secured a gold medal, standing out among 96 global teams from special forces and regiments.
  • The representation for the Indian Army was by the 4/5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force), participating in the event in Brecon, Wales, between October 13-15.
  • This challenging exercise, often equated to the “Olympics of military patrolling”, showcases the endurance and collaborative spirit of the participating teams.

Prime Minister Inaugurates the Initial RRTS Segment

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the initial section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor.
  • This notable event was conducted at the Sahibabad RapidX Station in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Key Points to Note:
    • The priority segment spans 17 km, connecting Sahibabad and the ‘Duhai Depot’ and featuring stations such as Ghaziabad, Guldhar, and Duhai.
    • RAPIDX trains operating on the RRTS are expected to maintain an average speed of 100 kmph, faster than the traditional metro trains.

India’s Position Declines in the Global Pension Index

  • India’s rank in the Global Pension Index witnessed a drop, going from 41 out of 44 in 2022 to 45 out of 47 in 2023.
  • The Mercer CFA Institute Global Pension Index (MCGPI) survey of 2023 highlighted slight advancements in India’s pension system compared to the prior year.
  • Ranking at the top was the Netherlands with an index value of 85.0. Following close were Iceland (83.5) and Denmark (81.3). Positioned at the lowest rank was Argentina, scoring 42.3.

Sberbank’s Notable Registration as an FPI with Sebi

  • Russia’s Sberbank has earned the recognition of being the premier Russian bank to be registered with the Indian securities regulator as a foreign portfolio investor (FPI). This is confirmed by the data on the National Stock Depository (NSDL) portal.
  • Already operating in India, the state-owned Sberbank received a Category I FPI license from the market regulatory authority.
  • Entities with a Category I FPI license benefit from more flexible beneficial ownership disclosure norms.

India’s Remote Work Ranking Takes a Dip as per GRWI

  • The Global Remote Work Index (GRWI) placed India at the 64th position out of 108 countries. This denotes a drop by 15 spots compared to its 2022 ranking.
  • Leading the list in the top 10 positions are countries including Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Estonia, Lithuania, Ireland, and Slovakia.
  • NordLayer, a cybersecurity firm, released this index. It assesses nations on fundamental parameters: cyber safety, economic health, infrastructural strength (both digital and physical), and societal wellbeing.
