1. India’s First Fully Operational Underwater Metro by End of 2023
- The East-West Metro Corridor project, overseen by the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, is set to be finalized by December 2023, marking the launch of India’s inaugural underwater metro service.
- Spanning 15 kilometres, the East-West corridor of Kolkata Metro stretches from Salt Lake Stadium to Howrah, featuring stations such as Karunamayi, Central Park, City Centre, and Bengal Chemical within the Salt Lake Sector-5 to Salt Lake Stadium segment.
- The underwater tunnel, situated beneath the Hooghly River, witnessed a construction cost increase to approximately 157 crores per kilometre from the average 120 crores per kilometre.
- The Kolkata Metro, which stands as Asia’s first subway, was inaugurated on October 24, 1984, connecting Dum Dam to Tollygunge. The Soviet Union played a significant role in its initiation.
- Boasting a length of 390.14 kilometres, the Delhi Metro holds the title for India’s most extensive and largest metro system, which opened its doors to the public on December 24, 2002.
- With a length of 0.6 kilometre, the Ahmedabad metro claims the position of being one of the world’s shortest metro systems.
- Indian cities featuring metro systems include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, and Pune.

2. Launch of Co-branded Credit Cards by SBI Card and Punjab & Sind Bank
- SBI Cards and Punjab & Sind Bank have teamed up to unveil co-branded credit cards for the bank’s customers.
- Three new card variants have been introduced: PSB SBI Card ELITE, PSB SBI Card PRIME, and PSB SimplySAVE SBI Card.
- The PSB SBI Card ELITE and PSB SBI Card PRIME are designed to offer premium and semi-premium customers respectively with unique benefits and an unparalleled experience.
- The PSB SimplySAVE SBI Card aims to appeal to those looking to save more on their expenses.

3. Ajit Kumar Saxena Announced as the Chairman and Managing Director of MOIL
- MOIL Limited, a government-owned entity, has appointed Ajit Kumar Saxena as its new Chairman and Managing Director.
- Shri Saxena began his career in 1986 as a Management Trainee (Technical) at the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL). He has held various positions at SAIL, including the Director (Operations) at RINL’s Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant, Chief General Manager at IISCO Mills, Burnpur, and General Manager at Bhilai Steel Plant.
- MOIL, one of India’s leading manganese ore producers, was founded in 1962 as Manganese Ore (India) Limited. The company underwent a name change in 2010–11, becoming MOIL Limited.

4. Madhya Pradesh Men’s Team Wins Hockey at Khelo India Youth Games 2022
- In the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 Men’s Under-18 Qualifiers, Madhya Pradesh emerged victorious against Odisha with a score of 6-5 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
- For Madhya Pradesh, goals were contributed by Ali Ahmad, Mohammad Zaid Khan, and team Captain Ankit Pal.
- The 2023 edition of Khelo India Youth Games will be hosted in Madhya Pradesh. Odisha, Haryana, and Jharkhand are other participating states, with Haryana securing third place overall following a triumph over Jharkhand.

5. Demise of Pritzker Prize-Winning Architect Arata Isozaki
- Arata Isozaki, an esteemed Japanese architect and recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, has passed away at the age of 91.
- Initiating his career under the guidance of Japanese architectural luminary Kenzo Tange, Isozaki earned the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1987. He was celebrated for his distinct post-modern approach, adeptly blending the cultural and historical influences of the East and West in his designs.
