1. Reappointment of Tushar Mehta as India’s Solicitor General
- Tushar Mehta has been reappointed as India’s Solicitor General for a three-year term by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, led by PM Modi. He has held this role since October 2018, having previously served a three-year term starting July 1, 2020.
- Along with Mehta, the government has also reappointed Vikramjit Banerjee, KM Nataraj, Balbir Singh, SV Raju, N Venkataraman, and Aishwarya Bhati as Additional Solicitors General (ASGs).

2. India Triumphs at the 2023 Asian Kabaddi Championship
- India clinched its eighth title at the 2023 Asian Kabaddi Championship in Busan, South Korea, defeating Iran. Iran initially led, but a resilient Indian defense changed the game’s trajectory, scoring crucial points.
- Following this victory, the Indian team is gearing up for the forthcoming Asian Games 2023, set to take place in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.

3. India-France Maritime Partnership Exercise in Bay of Bengal
- On June 30th, 2023, Indian Naval vessels INS Rana and INS Sumedha, alongside the French Navy ship FS Surcouf, conducted a Maritime Partnership Exercise in the Bay of Bengal.
- The collaboration featured tactical drills, replenishment maneuvers at sea, fighter aircraft air defense, and inter-ship helicopter operations.

4. National Postal Worker Day – July 1st
- Recognizing the unwavering commitment of postal workers, National Postal Worker Day is observed on July 1st. Instituted in 1997 by a Seattle-based postal carrier, the day commemorates when nearly 490,000 postal workers in the US covered an average distance of 4 to 8 miles to ensure comprehensive mail delivery.
5. Canada Day – July 1st
- Canada Day, celebrated on July 1st, is Canada’s national holiday. It marks the historic day in 1867 when three provinces came together under the British Empire, granting Canada self-governance and the adoption of its constitution.
6. National Doctor’s Day – July 1st
- India marks July 1st as National Doctor’s Day, acknowledging the pivotal role of doctors in society. The 2023 theme was “Celebrating Resilience and Healing Hands.” The day coincides with the birth anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, an esteemed physician and West Bengal’s second Chief Minister. 7. GST Day – July 1st
- July 1st also marks GST Day, commemorating the launch of the Goods and Services Tax in India in 2017. The GST was instituted on July 1, 2017, streamlining the tax framework and enhancing the business ecosystem.
8. National Chartered Accountants Day – July 1st
- Also observed on July 1st is National Chartered Accountants Day, celebrating the establishment of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in 1949. The day honors ICAI’s 75 years of service and its paramount role in the nation’s financial and accounting sector.
