1. Rajesh Malhotra Appointed Principal DG of PIB

  • Rajesh Malhotra, a senior IIS officer from the 1989 batch, has assumed the role of Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) starting from March 1, 2023.
  • He takes over from Satyendra Prakash, who retired on February 28, 2023.
  • Rajesh Malhotra has a significant background in media and communication, with a notable 21-year tenure at the Election Commission of India (ECI) from 1996 to 2017.
  • Additionally, Priya Kumar has been named as the Director General of Doordarshan News (DD News), succeeding Mayank Agrawal.

2. Deakin University to Establish Campus in India

  • Deakin University from Australia has received approval from the International Financial Services Centre Authority (IFSCA) to establish a campus in Gujarat’s GIFT City.
  • This achievement marks Deakin as the first foreign university to gain approval for setting up a campus in India.

3. UPI Cross-Border Connectivity to Extend Beyond Singapore

  • Following the successful launch of cross-border real-time digital payments with Singapore, experts anticipate the expansion of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to include countries like the UAE, Mauritius, and Indonesia.
  • Singapore was the inaugural country to experience cross-border Person-to-Person (P2P) payments through UPI.

4. Bola Tinubu Elected President of Nigeria

  • Bola Tinubu, the candidate from Nigeria’s ruling party, has been elected as the country’s new president in the presidential election held on March 1, 2023.
  • Tinubu, associated with the ‘All Progressive Congress Party,’ secured victory in his first attempt, becoming Nigeria’s fifth president since the country’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

5. Vietnam Elects Vo Van Thuong as President

  • Vietnam’s National Assembly has elected Vo Van Thuong as the new President of the country in a reshuffle of top leadership amid an anti-graft campaign.
  • Thuong’s election followed the sudden resignation of his predecessor Nguyen Xuan Phuc in January.

6. ISRO’s Successful Flight Test of Cryogenic Engine for Chandrayan-3

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has conducted a successful flight acceptance hot test of the CE20 cryogenic engine, which will power the Cryogenic Upper Stage of the LVM3 launch vehicle for the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
  • This marks a significant milestone in India’s third moon mission.
