1. Ram Nath Kovind is the 14th President of India

  • Mr.Kovind from NDA defeated opposition candidate Meira Kumar by a huge margin.The polling was marked by cross voting.
  • He received 2,930 votes with a value of 7,02,044.
  • He is the first BJP member to be elected President.

2. Rajya Sabha chairman accepts Mayawati’s resignation

  • The chairman of Rajya Sabha, Hamid Ansari accepted the resignation letter submitted by BSP chief Mayawati .
  • Ms.Mayawati resigned from the house, accusing BJP and the Chair of not allowing her to raise the issue of anti-Dalit violence in Uttar Pradesh.

3. Sasikala in corridor without jail uniform

  • AIADMK interim Sasikala who is serving her jail term at Bengaluru Central Prison is found to be walking without jail uniform in a leaked CCTV footage.
  • A senior prison official said that she uses five prison cells to eat, sleep, do yoga and store her belongings.

4. 70 Mumbai buildings ordered to reduce height in 60 days

  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) has ordered the buildings to reduce their height within 60 days.
  • This came after a few buildings were classified as obstacles in flight paths.

International News

1.Pakistan SC warns Sharif’s children

  • Pakistan’s PM Nawaz Sharif’s children could face up to seven years of imprisonment if it is proved that they had submitted forged documents to the Panama panel.
  • Panama panel is probing the money laundering case against PM Nawaz Sharif and his family.

2. Voyager spacecraft marks 40th anniversary

  • Voyagers 1 and 2 were launched in 1977 and are currently exploring the interstellar place.
  • They have explored the giant planets of our outer solar system: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and 48 of their moons and the unique system of magnetic field that they possess.

3. India and China should work together for peace: US

  • Expressing concern over the standoff, the US said India and China should work together to come up with some better sort of arrangement for peace in Sikkim.
  • Earlier, the US said India and China should engage in a direct dialogue to reduce border tensions.

Business News

1 .Wipro’s first quarter profit up by 1.2%

  • Consolidated profit rose to 20.83 billion rupees for the first three months of the FY till June 30.
  • The company reported consolidated revenue of 136.26 billion rupees, while revenue from its core IT services came in at 130.26 billion rupees.

2. Air India spends Rs.6000 crore every year in paying debts

  • Union Minister Jayant Sinha said that the airline is in loss due to high debts burden.
  • The overall debt is estimated to be around 50,000 crores.

3. Delhi raised most startup funding

  • A report by YourStory says that startups in Delhi have raised the highest funding in India amounting to $3.35 billion
  • Bengaluru came second with $2.56 billion in investment from 129 deals.

4. Uber sued in New York

  • Ride-hailing app Uber has been sued by New York’s Disability Rights Advocates for discrimination against passengers with wheelchairs.
  • It alleges that 99.9% of Uber’s close to 60,000 cars in New York are not usable by people with wheelchairs.

Sports News
1. Manpreet Kaur suspended for doping

  • India’s top ranked female shot putter Manpreet has been suspended by Athletics Federation and is set to lose the gold medal she won at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships in Odisha.
  • She will also miss the upcoming World Championships.< li>

2. US Open to offer $50 million in prize money

  • US Open which is the season’s last Grand Slam has increased the prize money by up to 9%
  • US Open will be held from August 28th to September 10th.
