1. Siddaramaiah Returns for a Second Term as Karnataka’s Chief Minister
- Siddaramaiah has been inaugurated as Karnataka’s Chief Minister for his second tenure, marking his distinction as the 24th individual to hold this title in the state’s chronicles. This followed a decisive victory in the recent legislative elections.
- Alongside Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar was sworn in, taking on the mantle of a cabinet minister, and is designated as the singular deputy chief minister of Karnataka.
- Karnataka’s governance structure comprises a dual parliamentary system that includes both a Legislative Assembly and a Legislative Council. The city of Bangalore is heralded as its capital.

2. Culmination of ‘Samudra Shakti-23’: The Indo-Indonesia Joint Naval Collaboration
- The naval partnership, ‘Samudra Shakti-23’, jointly conducted by India and Indonesia, concluded its operations in the South China Sea. This event signifies the fourth recurrence of this collaborative exercise.
- The maritime segment of the exercise, conducted from May 17th to 19th, 2023, spotlighted the engagement of the ASW corvette INS Kavaratti, in consort with the Chetak helicopter and a Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
- Prior to the commencement of the sea phase, specialized engagements were undertaken during the harbor segment. The ‘Samudra Shakti’ endeavor was initiated in 2018.

3. RBI’s Initiative to Retire Rs 2000 Denominations Under the Clean Note Policy
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has publicized its decision to retract Rs 2000 currency notes from mainstream circulation, aligning with its Clean Note Policy directive.
- While the Rs 2000 notes will continue to hold their status as legal tender, their proliferation will be restricted.
- Citizens are recommended to either deposit these denominations into banking facilities or transition them for alternative denominations.
- Starting from May 23rd, 2023, individuals can facilitate the exchange of their Rs 2000 denominations, subject to a limitation of Rs 20,000 per individual transaction.

4. India’s Remarkable Feat at the Archery World Cup Stage 2, Hosted in Shanghai
- Emerging Indian archer, Prathamesh Jawkar, secured the World Cup gold in the men’s solo compound category, outclassing the global champion Mike Schloesser hailing from the Netherlands during the Archery World Cup Stage 2.
- In the compound division, a category not represented in the Olympics, India clinched two gold medals. The duo comprising Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam triumphed over the top-seeded Korean contingent with a scoreline of 156-155.
- An additional mixed pairing, with Sheetal and Rakesh as participants, also clinched the esteemed gold medal.
